i have "just" the little LS1 with the SS HT and have never dynoed but i can consistently get ~114 traps with just cam/headers and a few other little bolt-ons. heads are going to make mine fly. drives very nice and i can do 6th gear cruising at 1,100 RPM with no surge
The cam selection definitely depends on which cylinder head you end up running! Everyone has their favorites and will post up that you should run whatever they are running, that's just how forums go.
Between the two cams you listed, there is enough difference in VE's that the relatively smaller FTI cam will peak power earlier...for a more apple to apple comparison, the 228R would match up better with that cam. But there is nothing wrong with the TorquerV2! There are many GTO owners here that run it and absolutely love the cam. Again, it'll come down to which head you run, and your ultimate goals for the cam swap and the overall combo.

Let us know if we can help with your combo
What would be the best set of heads to run with the V2? I was thinking of maybe some Trickflows in the future, but I haven't really checked to see if they match with my setup.

The TFS 225's would match-up great with your LS2 short-block and TorquerV2. Or you could try the PRC 227 head. It is PRC's relatively new aftermarket casting cylinder head, which was designed to be in competition with the TrickFlow line-up without having to spend quite that much money. It's also available with the 6 bolt provisions if you ever decided to go LSx block, has the thicker deck surface you expect from the aftermarket castings, laid over valve angle, powdered metal valve guides (so you don't HAVE to run a roller tipped rocker with any cam over .550" lift like the competition), etc.
Both of those would treat you very well and make the power you want!

Thanks, but do you mean the 237's? I don't see 227 on your website...
The SSHT is a fun cam.....I love how it drives in my car. I have 243's and all the bolt ons and it runs its ass off in a straight line, but more importantly when I'm autoX'ing it is never out of its powerband and it revs to 6.9K.
My camaro will be getting a bigger cam....I think I could daily drive something much larger then the SSHT and be happy.
lol I know what you mean by everyone siding with their cam choice! but it is nice to see who runs what and what they put down, trap, ET, etc...
goals? I want a quick street car, will I track it? Yes occasionally but I don't want anything breaking....it's my DD.
I have a 632ci Nova that runs 7's if I want to go as fast as possible in a straight line...
I just want a fun, fast 6speed car. Auto X, drag-strip, you name it!
This cam will definitely be coupled with some ported 243 heads....I can't drop that much coin on TEA or AFR for my DD.....besides for the 10-12 more hp Id rather put the difference into my suspension.

Yea, we've got a new website coming soon, so we've fallen behind updating this one since it all has to be added anew to the next one. It's a step between the 215's and 237's basically, and is meant for those medium bore engines like the LS2/LQx's.
sorry for the tread jack but yeah. I have been racing 600's for 3 years now and I am basicly getting done with the 600. I am looking to put my GTO on the track not drag real track, i know what i need for the suspension and the motor is what i need to know. Its going to be a DD car still but i need to know what kind of cam to get I was looking at the v 2.0 with some LT and probably the spintec exhaust. I like the voorm intake so i dont know if i should go with the MAF or with out.
I am really looking for a choppy sound from the cam but like i said its going to be a DD car so it cant be a Megadeath cam lol. Sorry for the tread jack just want to here what ppl say
