LPE fuel pump HELP!!!

So i installed the pump, minus the fuel sock(broke it trying to align it). The psi is steady at 60 thru lower rpms. Then dumps to 40 psi +/- when boost kicks in. Also it doesnt hold pressure when turned off.
Any ideas???

first of alll...DO NOT RUN IT WITHOUT THE FILTER. I just took mine off after 4k miles, ill post pics later or tmorrow of the old one vs new one.

Pressure drop is somewhat normal. I had/have a problem with my pressure dropping. 60psi at idle -2000 rpm, then to 50psi to 4k rpm, then to 30psi from 4k-redline. My fix hopefully is the 8.1L bucket. I am assuming i am emptying hte bucket out too quickly, as yours is probally doing as well

It wont hold pressure when turned off because its not pumping anything.

my factory pump did not bleed off any pressure when shut down. I talked to a LPE tech and he said if its bleeding off i must have installed it wrong. So i went back in to check everything and when i separated the bucket the pump was just hanging from the sleeve. Not sure how they expect it to stay without clips. Also my factory pump only dropped to 50 psi at wot.

The sock helps hold the pump...

the sock holds it up and the o ring slides into the top of the bucket just like the stock one.

The main reason for pressure drop is that since its a high flow pump it pumps the fuel out of the bucket faster than the "venturi" system can fill the bucket up

I had issues with a 255 pump sliding or being pushed out of the bucket. I purchase the lpe kit and installed it with the same problems. They are close to what your describing but mine would keep droping pressure. After a week or so I would only have 45 psi at idle.

I solved all of this by upgrading to the aps kit.

I have not had any issues with the LPE kit and it holds 54-55psi at WOT without a BAP. The stock pump only made 48-50psi. Dave, I think the sock helps jam/push up on the pump to create a tight seal on the o-rings/bushing. You should get a new sock and re-check all the seals/bushings. PM me if you are still stuck, we might meet up a rons place next weekend and mod/party a bit.

I just installed mine last week. Im not sure about pressure drop, because I dont have a fuel pressure gauge, but I know my pump fit really tight in the sending unit. The sock was resting on the bottom of the bucket, and it didnt seem to have any room to move around.

I ordered a new sock and found a thread on this problem. Seems many people had same issue and the fix was using the factory plastic spacer with double o-rings. When the sock comes in i'll give it a try. Threw the stock pump back in the mean time.

I have an LPE pump in my car.

It will hit to about 50 PSI at key on, but if I wait it drops about 2 PSI per min, this is normal bleed off on a returnless system.

It jumps to 65 PSI at idle and low RPM's, and drops to about 58-60 at WOT where it holds solid through the RPM's.

Sounds like you are getting a bad seal, which is because the sock holds tight against the bucket holding the pump in place. Fix this and I would be willing to bet your pressure drop would be seriously reduced.

this is why you dont run your fuel pump without a filter...
this is about a year and a half and maybe 3k miles
