feedback on performance chip

i just purchased a X3 performance chip for my 05 GTO. I ordered it through Engine Performance Chips online. Can anyone tell me if this is bad for my car?

Holy 1986 Batman! May or may not be bad for your car, but I suspect it won't be good. Save your money for a quality hand held tuner, or better yet a dyno/street tune by a reputable shop (or learn to do it yourself). That chip is crapolla technology and it wouldn't give you 50 HP (or 5 HP) if you dropped it from a plane. Beat it with a hammer and consider this a learning experience.

That is most likely one of the 10-cent resistors sold as a "performance chip" that you connect to the intake air temp sensor to fool the PCM into making more power. Throw it in the garbage before you do damage to your engine, and do some reading here about real tuning and engine management options.
Unfortunately the "real" performance upgrades are not cheap, but making safe power never is.

You didn't think to ask this before you bought it?

You tune the computers on these cars with a laptop and a tuning program, not by replacing chips.

IAT=Intake Air Temperature

As the IAT reads hotter air it pulls timing from the computer to make sure you don't detonate or knock.

It's a safety measure to make sure on a hot day you don't blow a hole in the piston.

Throw it away or ask for your money back.

I don't know, this thing looks pretty badass, may have to ditch my custom proxses tune and order up one of these bad boys! I spent thousands of dollars to gain 20%, I could have done it all for $99.99!!!! Why hasn't anyone brought this up before! Disappointed in this forum.

The X3 performance chip is a revolutionary fully adjustable, programmed performance control unit. It is simply the best performance chip available on the market. The X3 was designed individually for each specific vehicle. This means that you will receive an X3 unit that is custom-made for your application to deliver the highest output possible. Our unique X3 chip will increase power by up to 20% or 50 horsepower.

The X3 performance chip is the only one of its kind that automatically adjusts to provide you with maximum horsepower or maximum efficiency depending on the driving conditions. If you tow a trailer, this product will help you get more power for the on-ramps and more fuel efficiency when you are cruising. If you are a casual driver, this product will give you a great blend of maximum power and fuel economy when you need it.

If you want the best - only the X3 chip will do!

Satisfaction Guaranteed!

How Does the X3 Module Work?

X3 modifies the signals to your vehicle's ECU. X3 adjusts the air/fuel ratio to a perfect balance and then adjusts the secondarily timing curves to new performance settings. In addition, our X3 units have an Oxygen Sensor control circuit integrated so that it can automatically control the power output you are looking for!

Benefits of the X3 Module

o Increases engine output up to 20%.
o Enhances horsepower, throttle response, acceleration and torque.
o Provides up to a 15% increase in fuel economy.
o Performance level setting from 0 - 100 %.
o Automatically adjusts to provide you with maximum horsepower or maximum efficiency.
o INTEGRATED O2 - OXYGEN SENSOR SIGNAL CONTROL to squeeze the maximum amount of power out of your engine.
o Easy universal 20 minutes installation.
o Immediate effects on engine performance.
o Reduces flat spots or delay time under full throttle.
o Improves throttle response and total engine responsiveness.
o Engine durability will not be affected at all.

Why even have adjustment, crank that baby up to 100% and enjoy the 20% added power!

The best advice is what I said in post #3. Read through the tech sections here to find what actually works and is safe, then contact our sponsors (see list on left) to discuss your best options given your goals for the car and your budget.

Start by listing what you have and what your looking for.

If you have say an automatic even a hand held tuner makes a big improvement because it makes changes to the shift points.

Helps to know which direction you want to focus on, suspension, power, looks.
