Just a toss-in of an idea:
For something like the last 10+ years there has been a season ending event at Atlanta Dragway that has been known as the "Super Heavy Shootout".
It began with the Impala SS faithful way back when, and is always a turnout comparable to what has been at T-bone's event at Darlington the last few years.
Laid back atmosphere, nice people, perfect Track prep, and the kind of track that is family friendly - Over 900 hotel rooms, 25+ restaurants, and a big Factory Outlet mall, all within 2 miles of the track - which is, by the way, within a mile of Exit 149 on Interstate 85, about 65 miles Northeast of metro Atlanta. They also have a huge tower with Suites available for group rentals.
I only offer the idea because the race has expanded over the years to include Mercury Marauders, new Camaros and even pickups/Tahoes/Trailblazers SS's etc. The only requirements are that the vehicle be in excess of 4000 lbs (including driver) after the run. I doubt that the rental can be that expensive because the car show, and racing fields are modest in numbers, Much like the ECS.
My thoughts are that perhaps the fun that we have enjoyed at Darlington could be reproduced by teaming up with the folks who produce the Super Heavy Shootout because it would be easily possible to have 2 events going on at the same time. They have had entries from long distances every year and they also have time for everyone to get in as many runs as desired.
Atlanta has something like 22 acres of paved pit area, a VP race fuel Depot right on the property, and seats something like 13000. They also just totally rewired the facility last November with state of the art Fiber Optic cabling for the timing system.
If Travis' faithful attendees for the ECS, could contact the SHS folks, perhaps a unified effort would make sense and be cost effective for both (groups). They also usually have their last Test & Tune event of the year on the Friday night before the SHS event at Atlanta.
For reference: Charlotte is 3 hours away, Richmond roughly 7, Nashville about 5, Gainesville, FL is around 5.5 hours, Birmingham is less than 4 hours, and Savannah, GA is roughly 3.5 hrs.
I don't have any connection to either promoter, but have been to both events and they really do favorably compare in many aspects.
I would really hate to see either one go away. You can get details on Atlanta Dragway at www.AtlantaDragway.com and see their schedule there.

I just saw this and it just ruined my day. Travis did a great job and I was planning to be on the top of the list for V. We all need to meet at a test and tune some time if only to swap lies and shoot the bull.

I'm sorry. You were there every year and one of the "regulars" We should definitely get a t&t together. We can put the word out about a date and just go have a good time. Thank you for the kind words.

Bristol opens up for T&T on March 31st. Their going to allow slicks this year. So maybe the track prep will be better. Those of you close enough, come on down. Hoping to see JJ's 04 YJ break into the 9's.

. Looking at another option at Atlanta Dragway in the fall. It's a 4000lb race. It's something that could be a lot of fun.

Could be, as long as it's not full of chickenshit street rules.

Hey, if you're serious about doing a FB3, get back with me. I would be happy to do investigative work and local arrangements with VMSP if enough guys stood with me on this. Nothing for blood, just good ole family entertainment at 110 + MPH. DT

You gonna be running it? If not I'm afraid they'll stick in a bunch of bullshit street car rules and knock me out. I'll stay committed and interested til that happens but I won't be adding street tires, rug or anything like that to my car. Can't afford to do things like that.

A buddy of mine will be running the show and I will be helping. Will be the same as the ECS.

I was told this weekend that there is hope for ECS at Darlington. I was in at a Corvette Show in Charleston this weekend and a bad sounding IBM Goat was there and talks with the new owners of the track are on going. I hope it works out Sc is a lot closer to Fl than Va.
