Thankfully the damage missed the engine and just compressed the frame....

Wait you have frame damage now?

And I'll attest to the high price of fixing basic stuff. Had the front bumper, hood and 2 fenders replaced and painted and it was like 12k.

I hope you take care of the frame problem though, that could be huge and expensive. Maybe the reason the insurance company is not totaling it out is because they know that they frame is bad and would get nothing out of the car.

Insurance is not totaling the car, they are going to pay to have it fixed.

Hopefully the salvage stuff they put on is still in real good shape. From deer-hitting experience, OEM headlight is about $700, Radiator $600, bumper cover $750, fender $800, and the GTO side badges are about $130/ea

Badges? We're just going to paint around them...

Learn to drive?

I've got caught in snow/ice in mine once in GA. I made it home without traction control on no problem.

be thankful you dont have state farm as a insurance carrier...no after market or used parts only OEM...my first GTO was totalled $14,740 in damage....this one I went into a ditch with and it was $3,000 in damage so that estimate sounds about right.

Werd. Drove mine home to KC from St. Louis the day I bought it. Rain, ice and snow all the way.

Edit: My wife drove it home while I followed in the crappier car.

Good luck OP. Get a better price or buy it back and fix it if they total it.

Not that your mechanic would have known this, but the answer is in this thread-

A cheap fix with a few washers might have prevented this whole thing (or not, we'll never know).

No way man! If you get all OEM parts, it will cost you more in just parts. Now calculate in paint and body work. No way you can get that fixed for $3400.

Put it this way. My car was side swiped. Needs a new front panel and dents pulled on passenger door. Needs to be refinished and painted when body work is done. I was quote d $2700

I was quoted $3800 to fix damage from hitting Bambi (baby deer the size of a large dog)...that's new hood, bumper cover, headlight, lower grill, paint, labor.. however, that is simply cosmetic damage and both fenders were untouched..... 11k certainly seems high, but that depends how much stuff you jacked up under the hood.

Gotta pay to play, man....You also have to keep your foot out of it when it's shitty out if you wanna keep it in one piece. (or learn to drive, as others have stated). I daily drove my car for 3 years in some pretty harsh midwest winters. The first winter I commuted 80 miles round trip with the stock 18" Bridgestones up front and all season Kuhmo's out back... no issues.

This cost me $6422.15 to have fixed. Those telephone poles just love to jump out in front of you when there is ice on the road. A few before and after shots. The savings from not having to paint a hood paid for the new headlights and the difference in the hood price.

I drove my GTO in the from WA to GA while towing my R1 on a trailer. 2 days of it was in the mountains going through snow covered roads on stock 18s with stock crap tires with snow chains......TC was off. My car wasn't S/C but only had a small cam in it. Only time I also wrecked was because I didn't get enough sleep and was pushing my luck trying to drive through.

But it does seem most GTOs are being wrecked while getting on the interstate. I know its tricky but if I know its rained or the roads would still be wet, I'd wait until I merged on the interstate to "gun it". Live and learn.

For 11K I would highly suggest letting them total it and just buy a different one.

Well 11k later and she's fixed.

The salvage GTO had everything they needed except for the front bumper cover, the 2 grilles and I needed a new license plate holder.

Needed a new hood as well, driver side quarter panel and door needed to be repainted and rebadged.

Frame was kinked and needed to be fixed as well, and then the car had its alignment checked out.
