Dailey driver mods, driveabilty etc.

Hopefully I don't get for starting a thread on this but I did a search and didn't quite find what I was looking for.

My question is:

1) How daily driveable and reliable is your daily driver?
2) How many miles does it have?
3) What mods does it have and is it tuned?
4) What kind of power are you making?
5) How is the gas mileage?
6) Do you plan on doing more mods?
7) Is there a mod that you feel was not worth your money?
8) Any major issues and at how many miles did the issue occur?

The reason I ask is because I bought a high mileage Goat with the intent of doing a 402 build but before I commit that small fortune to an engine rebuild I want to view what others have done because at the end of the day this will still be my DD for a while.

To answer the questions above:

1) Very daily driveable and reliable.
2) 155k+ miles
3) Svede, Kooks w/no cats, Monster stage 3, Tick MC, no tune.
4) No clue on power. Estimated 365 rwhp (just a wild guess).
5) Approximately 18 mpg combined.
6) More mods? Absolutely!
7) No regrets yet, the purpose of this thread is to avoid regrets altogether.
8) Since I've had it, the only major issue was my master cylinder going out.

Thanks for any input guys

That's a school bus load of questions there mo. : )
1. Very Reliable, but not a daily anymore.
2. 51k
3. Mods in Sig, currently diablo tuned
4. Not sure, I assume around 410/380
5. 24-25 freeway... 12-13 city since I don't drive like a granny.
6. Maybe ported heads down the road, but nothing soon.
7. My k@n Cai, and my granetelli maf sensor.
8. Mild clunking in the rear end, but new fluids for the most part took care of it.(started right after I bought it at 25k miles). Rebuilt tranny and new clutch at 49k miles, but my issues were more so my clutch line other then the clutch and tranny.

It's been a great car and wouldn't get ride of it for anything.
Good luck with your decisions bud.

1. Very reliable and drivable.
2. 112k rough mileage.
3. Zero mods.
4. Stock power.
5. Very good.
6. Nope.
7. Dunno.
8. And nope.

Oh wait I filled that out for my dd Honda........ The goat is very mildly modded and runs great.

In regards to goats, take your car to Chris White in San Jose. He knows them very well.

And like any car, quality regular maintenance will make a car last a long time.

My question is:

1) How daily drivable and reliable is your daily driver?
Same as stock when I'm not pushing it.

2) How many miles does it have?
90K

3) What mods does it have and is it tuned?
Headers/intake/ tune, not front mount turbo/ tuned

4) What kind of power are you making?
Not enough... 445/502 at the wheels

5) How is the gas mileage?
22-25 highway 13-14 city

6) Do you plan on doing more mods?
Twin set up, or bigger T4/T6 turbo and a 5.3 or 5.7 forged iron block

7) Is there a mod that you feel was not worth your money?
Not yet...

8) Any major issues and at how many miles did the issue occur?
none so far

I drive a G8 and not a GTO, but figure it might provide some insight...

1) Drove on the drag strip Saturday, then to work on Monday. Just got back from a 11,146 mile road trip where the only work needed on the car was an oil change. Have had it on road courses and can still haul groceries during the week (although I have to avoid the Safeway with oversized speed bumps).

2) ~48k now. Supercharger and suspension installed at ~15k. Heads and cam at ~30k.

3) Supercharger, heads, cam, exhaust, suspension, brakes... "the works"

4) 537/505 on 91 octane (crappy 10% EtOH stuff)

5) DD on my 50/50 mix is ~15mpg. All freeway is up to 22mpg. Road course is less than 4mpg. Average economy has more to do with how heavy my right foot is than anything else. It does seem to chew-through rear tires at a quicker rate too.

6) Methanol injection would really be the next engine mod, but I'm not sure I want that in my DD... seems like I'd be "pushing the limits" a bit more than I want (for example, what happens if/when I run out of methanol on a road trip? Do I need to have several gallons with me at all times just in case?).

7) Not really... doing the heads/cam/fuel has resulted in a louder and slightly more "temperamental" car than before (I actually have to let it warm-up in the mornings), but I don't mind.

8) A few hundred miles after changing the suspension I broke a stock swaybar endlink. I should have replaced it when I did the rest of the suspension but figured the stock part would hold. I had a DOD lifter fail on-track at ~30k miles. Still some questions about the root cause, but it gave me a chance for more mods (that's when I did the heads/cam).

The main reason why I even write this (being with a G8 and not a GTO) is to point out one should be a little conservative on the build/tune and be sure to do the necessary supporting mods. For a DD I prefer the concept of "overkill"... putting down 500hp? Build the driveline/fuel for 750hp. Dropping a big HP motor in without upgrading other driveline parts can result in headaches.

-Todd...
