If Allstate is cutting you a check for $7,900, you can bet the repair will be 50% higher.

From how this was worded I'm assuming the insurance company is paying the body shop directly for the repairs. I know that's how USAA handled the last claim I had with them.

Allstate is cutting a check in both the shop and my name. They located all the parts before they completed the estimate. They say the car will be ready in two to three weeks

Most expensive part was the roof. Nearly $2,000 for that part alone. Both Allstate and the repair shop agreed on the cost so I dont see them trying to raise it on me...

No way they are doing that for 7900. It was 7500 to fix the car when I hit a deer and the only parts replaced were the headlights, hood, and one grill.

You got ripped then. I fixed my car and bought it for less than 9,000.

Keyword YOU fixed it. I don't care what it costs as insurance paid for mine but to pay someone to do the work gets expensive quick.

I didn't repair the fender or hood paint it or repair the frame damage. I just replaced the tire and a wheel bearing and bushings that were damaged
I realize yours was much more damaged with the roof and all but I feel like someone is making too much money there

A few of my friends have lost their GTOs due to insurance companies totaling them out for what seemed like minor damage. And not many people like having vehicles with "salvaged titles". What insurance companies see and price against the value of the GTO. Headlights are valued at $600-$800, Hoods $1,800-$2,300 , front fenders $600-$900+ , etc.

Repairing yourself does not = what insurance sees in prices.

Oh and since it was mentioned, hub & bearing $300-$450, rim $550-$700 Obviously you can find cheaper prices at salvage yards or local sales but that's not what insurance looks at.

Apparently you didn't read what I said.
I didn't repair anything myself. Ya I replaced a tire and a wheel bearing
Tire 80$ wheel bearing 50$ headlight 150$ front bumper 250$ paint 800$ frame repair 300$
I know my insurance company will let me get quotes from whoever I want
and then I get to keep the extra and buy other things instead of wasting money like an idiot

the insurance company might not, but the actual auto body shop damn sure will!!!!

I did this with my GTO when it was in a wreck...to lessen my deductable, I sold the body shop a replacement bumper cover that needed to be replaced anyhow. Cut my deductable in half and the body shop made a little money off of me too!!

Just find a used 05/06 hood used for a good price, contact the autobody shop about putting that one on the car and paying you some small amount for it. (Trust me they will end up paying you less than an alternative route so they profit.) You benefit in that you get a 05/06 hood for damn cheap and you dont have to have it painted!!

Insurance is NOTHING but a scam, so work the system my man, work the system!!

i have a friend that has a body shop. it is nowhere near as simple as painting the hood and fender. well i guess it could be at maco or someplace like that. i figure they would charge a grand just to paint a fender and hood without any body work. they dont pull the fender and hood off, paint it , then stick it back on. whole car has to be taped/covered then paint fender and hood along with blending on the door. with the hood and a fender, they might even paint the bumper cover instead of trying to blend on it.

then after they paint the fender, hood, and blend on the door and bumper, they buff the whole car. because even with the paint matching perfect, the rest of the car's paint will have wear on it unless it is a garage kept weekend only car. so that makes the freshly painted hood and fender stick out like a third nipple.

i would think ( just guessing) with any kind of real "work" on the fender and hood then painting, blending and buffing, you would be looking at 1500-2000. with that though the whole car will look like new, well as far as paint goes. that sounds expensive, but like he says, he doesn't want some jackass riding around telling everybody they fixed his car and the fender looks 3 shades off.

oh yeah. its common practice to work out your deductable with the body shop, or most anyway. they have 1500 for the price of a hood. then .2 hrs fordosy work and .3 hrs for paint. so insurance is paying them 2k for the complete hood job. you find the hood you want for 1k that is the right color. so most of the timme the bodyshop will not make you pay your 500 and buff the used hood for you with the car if you will let them keep the other 500.

Next time buy mine. The paint is so slick that a tree would simply slide off causing no damage.
