Magnetic Drain Plug in 2012?

I searched and see a lot of posts about people buying them years ago, but now that the LS2 motor has been out of production for some time, I'm not finding them as easily.

Anyone know of a retailer that would stock one that fits my '06 GTO? Thanks!

Try to find one with metric M12x1.75 thread. It will fit.

My 2007 Trailblazer SS has a magnetic plug from the factory, almost sure it's the same thread as the GTOs too. I may have to look into this closer and put one on my GTO...

Yeah, another way to waste $10 that might be somewhat productive, is to get an oil filter magnet off eBay. Stick it on the filter, and hope for the best. I have one of these too.

I mean really most of the harmful pieces of metal are taken out by the filter before going into the bearings anyways whats in there is in there and if it's small enough its going thru no matter what kind of magnet you put on there, It's under alot of pressure.

Wear metal drains back into the pan from the moving parts in the engine, the magnet has a chance to catch debris before the pump sucks it up. It might prevent a filing from jamming the oil pump pressure relief valve.

This, except I got mine from Rockauto. Be on the lookout for these plugs with poorly attached magnets.

I got like 1/8" cubed of metal shavings the first oil change after putting in my magnetic oil drain plug. Since, it's always been super clean. I guess that first use cleaned out the engine. I think I went with the 1.75x12 from Advance for $6-$7.

Man, with this weather change, my car's a beast. VERY fun to drive at 9pm in chilly air

I have a magnet stuck to my M6 drain plug, it's a little powerful magnet I got at work. It's just sitting on the plug, with the trans case being aluminum and the magnet so strong, it just stays stuck to the plug and won't move.

Don't try this at home.

And if I'm not mistaken, there is a magnet in the bottom of the M6 trans case captured between the case halves, it's been a while since I've had a GM box apart.

It won't hurt to use a magnetic drain plug in anything. Motor/trans/diff.

But it doesn't need to be a "GTO" drain plug. Just the correct thread.

The T56 (can't speak for the autos) has two big magnets in the bottom, so a magnetic drain plug probably wont do much, but again it definitely not going to hurt anything.

That's what I remembered. I put a magnet on my drain plug just to see what it might catch, you can't see the factory magnets unless you disassemble the trans.
