If you look at threads by Jeremy Formato you can see the gains from the different "stages" of porting.

Quote:
Horsepower and torque gains are always fluctuating based on the particular vehicle and its level of modifications, but on average when tuned here is what can be expected over stock :

Stage 1 LS2 - 11 rwhp/13rwtq
Stage 1 LS3 - 10 rwhp/12rwtq
Stage 1 LS7 - 17rwhp/19rwtq

Stage 2 LS2 - 17 rwhp/19rwtq
Stage 2 LS3 - 14 rwhp/19rwtq
Stage 2 LS7- 21 rwhp/23rwtq

On the LS2's and 7's in particular, with Jeremy's tuning we have seen 30 rwhp and 30rwtq gains.

I have my L76 intake manifold stage 2 ported by Poolshark1321 - I don't know the exact gains from the porting since I threw on a bunch of parts at once though. I can say that his work is of the utmost quality though; the same goes for Jeremy Formato.

What are better heads to get the L92 or LS6 heads? I have an LS1 GTO.

Anyone, what would be the difference between ported ls3 intake and unported? In other words, how much horsepower am I looking to gain, approximately. I'm just looking to see if the benefits of porting, say 300$, is worth the outcome...

I think $300 is way out of line for the porting work required on an intake like the LS3. Would not pay that much because the returns will be minimal.

I don't cut the posts out and go thru all that BS because I don't believe it is worth the effort (and thus cost for the time involved). But I'm sure others will disagree with my opinion.

That is a pretty good price. AI charges $300 + shipping costs for the same port work.

I'll be honest, I had the ls3 intake and my stock tb ported and I didn't really see much of a gain. Mostly just better throttle response from the tb. If i had it to do again I would save the money on porting and put that towards the one-piece ds

Thanks for that input about porting. I'm considering port work but thought I could use the money for something else.

Someone posted a dyno sheet from two ported Ls3, one stock Ls3 and a FAST 102 intake. The stock intake out performed the two ported, and the FAST was only 8hp/7tq over the stock intake.

Unfortunately I won't be able to tell you what gains or losses I get from mine being ported since I am adding so much all at once.

that flycut job looks like a recipe for disaster. what the hell is being used there?
the marks to smooth the burrs would scare me too if its from an abrasive disc...grit will be all thru those bores.

I use a carbide tipped valve type tool from Lindy Tools, that works like a charm and leaves a professional looking deal with repeatable and measurable depth of notches.

Agreed, I used the Lindy and it worked fantastic! Dave over there really makes a great product!

It almost looks like your buddy is using a router and a dremmel to do this flycutting, it should look like this:

Clean and consistent.

Couldn't tell you for sure, but he says he is using a flycutting tool and that those pictures are incomplete. I've yet to see the finished product. I can see how the pictures others posted look a lot cleaner though.

You can probably just leave the stock ls2 injectors in and drive it there.

You could also try to find an SLP predator that has the 490HP tune on it. It's for the LS3/L92 top end. It has all the injector data and will work with smaller cams as it's tuned for 1.85ratio rockers. It's what I used to get to my tuner. Ran decent actaully. The LT fuel trims were actually pretty close too for the most part.

Not with my cam, no. It's boderline and was like 0.065 thousandths. Rule of thumb is 0.080 is safe clearance. Keep in mind that it's not just gross lift that effects your measurements and PTV. Duration plays a big role as well as LSA. The advance grinded into the cam does too.

What are the specs on your cam??

That doesn't sound like a bad deal, assuming it is the complete top end and how many miles are on it.

New ls3 intake, injectors, fuel rail is 300-350. New assembled ls3 heads are roughly 650. So I would think 900 is a little high.

I think on the assembled heads you still need offset intake rockers and stands(120.00 shipped roughly. If you are getting the complete head from the g8 then it evens out other than your heads arent new.If the idea of having hollow valves as opposed to solid valves(l92) is what you want then i would go with new heads from pace performance(ls3 heads) / intake+injectors off ebay ..my .02...goodluck..

True assembled heads wont come with the rockers or stands. But I assumed his buddy would keep the rockers and stands for the replacement heads on the G8.
