so in july im goin to be goin on block leave back to my home town and every year they have a car show and drag race i have a an 06 goat stock with jba exhaust i just ordered some headers, my buddy back home has a 2012 ss camaro and another has a 72 chevelle with a 454 and i dont wanna look like a fool so im tryin to get the goat all ready i was thinkin of takin it to east texas muscle cars and have a cam put in i emailed the owner he told me to put on headers first any thoughts?
I had to drop the steering rack to install mine. I think I've heard of others that didn't have to but I could be wrong. Do a search on this website. There are both header and cam install threads that can guide you through the whole process.
I can email you the cam install guide that I used if you'd like to check it out. I was pretty intimidated at first also but this guide gives detailed steps with pictures and helped me a ton. It also gives you a list of tools you'll need.
thatd be cool did you have to mess with the timing and stuff too? ive also been look around to see if i could findout anything about the header brand i bought i did my research before i bought them and they quality is pretty good for the $$$ but i didnt even check to see how they fit on the gto and im still up in the air on how to do the install if i should jack the car up and do in on jack stands or just go ahead and use the lift
As far as timing goes yes you will need to get it tuned (research first and find a reputable tuner) even if you just install headers. Myself and many others have done it on jack stands. A lift isn't necessary but I'm sure it'd be nice. What brand of headers did you get?
GTO headers are harder to install than you think. It would be best to get some help from someone who has done it before. It's pretty much an all day job on jack stands if you have never done it before. A lift would be better.
i got the I eat my own poo. long tube headers from what i read theyre not the best but theyre not that bad for the price and they should hook straight up to my jba catback i think im to go to take it to east texas muscle cars to tune it
You need tires above everything to avoid looking bad. If you go with a cam and bolt ons you'll be running very respectable numbers.

If you want free help installing them and a lift to do them on I'm in Bossier City. We can do them at the hobby shop. I've installed a set myself too. We can use the hobby shop here on base for 6 bucks an hour. Also yes the O B X headers do come with mid connecting pipes. Just make sure you buy the right set for your year. The 04s are different from the 05-06s.
