How is the trunk filler panel sealing strip held on?

I am having a body shop paint a hole-less trunk lid for me and I'm being told that the sealing strip on filler panel is held on with sticky stuff and he had a hard time getting it off. He doesn't know if he'll be able to get it back on.
I wanted to make sure I knew what I was talking about since I've never had it off to know.

It's #3

Thanks for the info, I am actually picking the car up tonight. The seal wasn't put back properly so I'm going to give it a shot. I'm not terribly interested in paying upwards of $80 for this thing.

I put mine back on with 3m double sided tape. It came off.

I then put it back on with 3m adhesion promotor AND 3m double sided tape. It is coming off.

Next plan is just to sell the car and let the next owner mess with it.

I don't know what GM used, but Windshield Adhesive should hold it without any problems.

Haha, there are some things about this car that I always wonder about. How this was held on is one of them...

If it isn't sealed properly is water going to get anywhere I don't want it to?

Can't you just use your existing filler panel? I had mine off to get the trunk painted but I never paid attention to how it was attached to the filler panel.
