So would a 35 series be ideal compared to a 40? I never understood why you would go from 40 up front to a 35 in the rear unless the tire didn't come in a 40 series.
A 275/35 and 275/40 are the same exact width. The second number in a tire size is called the aspect ratio. You can calculate how tall your sidewall is and how tall the tire is. ex. 275 x .4 (40 series sidewall) =110 mm / 25.4(to get the numbers into inches) 4.33. That means 1 sidewall of the tire is 4.33 inches tall. You have 2 sidewalls and that makes it 8.33 + 18 (rim size) =26.66 inches tall. Your front tire would be 25.7 inches tall. The back tire would sit 1 inch taller and roll slower messing up your speedo.
I have VB3's with the same offsets and although I have NOT ran the Hankooks, I would imagine you would be fine with their fitment, especially not being lowered. With rolled or cut rear fenders you should be Golden! 245/40 & 275/35 are almost the exact same heights. I'm currently running 285/30-18 and they are way to short. Burning them off so I can justify replacing them soon
People go with the 275/35 in back and the 245/40 in front to keep the tires at the same height and basically the same height as how they came stock. If you went with 275/40/18 (which im not sure many people make) in the back, the tire height overall would be more the the 245/40 since its wider. The above post explains that aspect of it very well.
The combo you want to run is perfect 245/40/18 in front and 275/35/18 in back.
