- L92/L76 and LS3 FAQ.

Q. What are the differences between L92/LS3 and LS2 style heads?
A. The L92/LS3 heads have larger relocated valves, larger rectangular intake ports (as opposed to the LS2's cathedral port), as well as increased intake and exhaust flow.

Q. What are the differences between L92 and LS3 heads?
A. LS3 heads ship with lighter valves and better valvesprings than standard L92 heads. Everything else is identical.

Q. What headgaskets can I use with L92/LS3 heads?
A. You CAN NOT use LS2 headgakets. You need a 4.060 bore headgasket which is OEM equipment on all vehicles with L92 heads or LS3 heads (see below). Many aftermarket manufacturers offer 4.060 head gaskets in different thicknesses to raise or lower compression.

Q. What are the differences between L76 and LS3 intake?
A. L92 and LS3 intake manifolds share the same castings and can be used interchangeably. Although the LS3 also has an external "beauty" cover, the most noteable difference in the manifolds themselves is the MAP sensor.

The L76 manifold uses an LS2 MAP sensor with a clip style mount.
The LS3 manifold uses a slightly larger MAP sensor (p/n: 88988583) that is bolted down.

Q. Where can I find L92/L76 or LS3 heads and intake?
A. The L92 Heads are OEM equipment on

- 2007+ Cadillac Escalade
- 2008+ Chevrolet Tahoe
- 2007+ GMC Yukon Denali/Denali XL
- 2007+ GMC Sierra Denali
- 2008+ Hummer H2
- 2009+ Chevrolet Silverado 1500
- 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 GT

The L76 Intake is OEM equipment on

- 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 GT

The LS3 Heads & Intake are OEM equipment on

- 2008-present Chevrolet Corvette
- 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
- 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Q. Which engines will the L92/L76 or LS3 Heads/Intake fit?
A. Any GM GEN-IV engine with a 4.000 bore or larger.

Q. With the L92/L76 or LS3 what are my options for...

- Rockers
- Springs
- Fuel Rails
- Injectors

Q. What do I need for a L92/L76 or LS3 swap on my car?

- L92/L76 and LS3 Tips and Information.

- Compression Ratio
- Flycutting

- Dyno Numbers of L92/L76 and LS3 Heads/Intake GTO's with stock displacement.

These cars are all 364 CID, and dyno numbers should be SAE to keep with the standard.

I have ordered them decending from the highest horsepower. If your information below needs updated, or you would like to be added to the list - please PM me or post up.

Thanks to PBANDPKGTO for gathering all the data.

Not me!

Ran my PB with this setup at 12.9@107. Mind you this is at 4100 feet with a DA of 5900.

Congrats man! How much do you figure the sensor held you back?

The Dyno op said I could probly hit 470 on pump, and maybe make a run for the top of the list on E85- 104 octane My AFR was terrible because of that sensor. It was 13.9-14.5 ish from 2-4,500 then dips down to 11.8-12.0 so it was sacrificing some for sure. Then I never had a chance to even touch timing :/

What TB are you running? Is this your old stock TPS?

That sucks you couldn't see its full potential. Are you going back after you fix/replace the sensor?
You do your own tuning as well, right?

What we have determined so far is that the shaft is mouted incorrectly in relation to the throttle blade. At 100% closed im getting a 20% TPS reading. At WOT im getting around 85%. This explains why Im fighting idle so hard, as it never goes into idle "mode". Its a used TS unit I believe,

If I buy new LS3 heads, are the springs that are in there plenty for the mild cams being used in these setups?

Short Answer. No. You will always be better off replacing the springs with better, stronger ones to control valve events better. LS3 springs are only good to 0.570 lift.

Thanks what I assumed. I feel better about used heads if I have to replace the springs anyway. If I could keep them then I would want to go new heads for sure. Baby came early and life has settled back down a tiny bit so trying to start piecing this all together again.

Touche. Congrats on the new life in your family! Exciting time I imagine.

If you do decide to get used heads, have a machine shop check them out for flatness and consistency to make sure they aren't warped or cracked anywhere. This will ensure that the heads seal nicely and won't leak when you do use them.

Thanks. Sure has made life more interesting.

Yeah I figured having them milled down anyway would mean they are nice and flat. I am 99% sure that I will buy new one no matter what though. The $100-150 savings I see most used ones go for just isn't enough for me to care vs new. In the grand scheme of things the headers will be the biggest kick to the pocket book.

Just remember with the ls2 tb you will only see 88% at wot so you might not be as far off as you think. I'd like to see numbers with a clean pass though as it sounds like a strong setup.

Can you elaborate a bit on this? Is it because the control mechanism is different, or just the ls3 tb has the potential to open wider for more flow?

I'm not sure if its the ls2 tb or just the way the tps in the dbw cars are, as I have never used an ls3 tb with my setup. Every ls2 car i've seen only reads 88% at wot/fully open. To my knowledge the ls3 tb doesn't open any further or give more flow

Ugh I am still sitting on the edge trying to decide if I want to do this or not. I am very close to wimping out and just sticking with my stock stuff. Just seems stupid when I am going down to the lifter level already. Just no idea where to get milled and don;t want to end up having to fly cut. If no fly cutting was 1000% ensured it may be a different story. </rant>

Edit: Also no measuring pushrods, screwing that up, waiting for them to ship, etc.

Haha sadly no. Baby has been taking up all our time lately. AI porting my heads + cam from them was moving up the list as I would know exactly what I am getting and be able to order and install.

Anybody have a line on where I could pick up a set of used 823's? I've been trying to find a pair to ship down to EdC but I have been striking out.

I believe Jegs sells a brand new set for $750, so if I get desperate enough I may go that route.
