VB3 and tires

Alright so I got my VB3's in the other day and can't decide on what tire size... I know how many people have the wheels and their tire choices but looking for some more info.

Wheels are 18x8.5 ET40, 18x9.5 ET45.
Suspension is full pedders GSR struts up front and Big Bores in the rear with 0 drop springs. I am planning on trimming the fenders already for the rear.

I am mainly looking at the hankook v12's in a 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 combo. My question is has anyone had these with these wheels and how was the fitment up front?

These tires seem to run wider than others in the category.
With the 245 v12 the section width is 9.8" and with the 275 the section width is 10.9"

I see people running the 40 series in the front with a 35 series in the rear. Is there a reason for this other than certain 275's only coming in 35 series? The V12's come in a 275/35/18 and 275/40/18.

Thanks for any input you guys have.

With those I think that 245 up front and 275 on the back you should be good. I ended up getting 285s on my car, but I have the 718's which come in et50.

Up front et40 in a 8.5" is perfect. The 275/35 is a bit wider than the 275/40, and the 40 is about 3/4" taller.

if that makes sense...

So would a 35 series be ideal compared to a 40? I never understood why you would go from 40 up front to a 35 in the rear unless the tire didn't come in a 40 series.

A 275/35 and 275/40 are the same exact width. The second number in a tire size is called the aspect ratio. You can calculate how tall your sidewall is and how tall the tire is. ex. 275 x .4 (40 series sidewall) =110 mm / 25.4(to get the numbers into inches) 4.33. That means 1 sidewall of the tire is 4.33 inches tall. You have 2 sidewalls and that makes it 8.33 + 18 (rim size) =26.66 inches tall. Your front tire would be 25.7 inches tall. The back tire would sit 1 inch taller and roll slower messing up your speedo. :tmi:

275/35-18
The 35 means your sidewalls are 35% the width of your tire so the wider your tires, the smaller the % will have to be to maintain the same sidewall height.

40% of 245mm is 98mm
35% of 275mm is 96mm

Therefore your side walls are only 2mm difference, almost the same. Going 40% on 275s would make the sidewall 110mm, 12mm off

I run VB3s (same offset) with Hankook V12s and I have no rubs at all after cutting the rear fender lips off

I have VB3's with the same offsets and although I have NOT ran the Hankooks, I would imagine you would be fine with their fitment, especially not being lowered. With rolled or cut rear fenders you should be Golden! 245/40 & 275/35 are almost the exact same heights. I'm currently running 285/30-18 and they are way to short. Burning them off so I can justify replacing them soon :)

Although I didn't have to I shaved it almost flush for extra clearance and a smooth look after painted.

If you look at the body line of the car through the rear wheel well, I had to remove the lip from everything North of the line to get rid of all rubbing whatsoever with no suspension mods.

People go with the 275/35 in back and the 245/40 in front to keep the tires at the same height and basically the same height as how they came stock. If you went with 275/40/18 (which im not sure many people make) in the back, the tire height overall would be more the the 245/40 since its wider. The above post explains that aspect of it very well.
The combo you want to run is perfect 245/40/18 in front and 275/35/18 in back.
