There was a guy a few weeks ago on Craigslist with some misc parts, compressor included. May be worth posting a wanted ad see if he bites.

I picked up a low mileage ac compressor today. It still has some oil in it. But truth be told I habe no idea what I'm doing aside from getting it out and the new one in. What oil do I put in it and how much and how?

in other words does anyone feel like coming over to help one day this week or weekend?

Damn it, again I'm going to Phoenix this weekend, otherwise I'd be happy to help.

So this is from my hazy memory last I did an AC install on another car.

The system should be evacuated with a vacuum pump to remove moisture and contaminants. Then the proper amount of oil added, I think this can be found in a service manual, then recharged.

When I did it, I almost bought a vacuum pump at Harbor Freight, I found the oil capacity online for the car. I believe the oil capacity depends on the overall capacity of your ac system. In the end, I just bolted the system together and for 150 bux a local shop vacuumed it, leak tested and charged it.

I'm certain if you post in the tech section Nothubertjfarnsworth or one of the other resident experts will nail your procedure.

Thanks. It has some oil in it still. Is it safe to drain that out and add new oil and how do I do that. A ac guy already vaccines the system so there's nothing in it. I just need to install new compressor and have him recharge it.

That said, when I did the AC install, the shop that charged it drained and added the oil for me.

I called a shop and they quoted me 350 to install my new compressor and charge the system. I may just let them do it. Ac system is something I've never messed with. I'm going to get a new dryer as cheap insurance also. But they can't get to me until next Wednesday so I'll probably call a few more places.
