Question Turning Slotted Rotors in DFW?

Where's the best place to get my slotted DBA's turned in DFW/Plano area? I've been getting vibration under braking at highway speed.

Thanks in advance

If you're close to the East Plano Area, Mastertech Auto shop (Off of ALMA & 15th Street) is a good place. I had my slotted and dimpled rotors turned about 3 months ago. I forgot what they charged but, got them turned and haven't had any problems with them. Just google them if it's close to you.

Good luck, many shops will say "Oh, we can't turn a slotted rotor".

Yes. Yes you can. Its not a problem. Its a simple interrupted cut on a lathe. Machinist do it every day. I've had an O'Reilly's do it in Houston for me years ago. Then (probably the same place) said "you can't turn" slotted rotors a few years later. Grrr...

Also, just had plain rotors (off a Toyota) take like 4 hrs for O'Reilly's here to turn. Problem is no one at these places know what they are doing anymore.

For arguments sake here is the link on how to machine slotted rotors straight off the DBA website.

I hear you, that's why i asked first instead of wasting my time driving to different shops.

I'm going to give Mastertech a try, and thx for the link Gimpy.

Well, MasterTech told me 'we don't do THOSE kind of slotted rotors' after I brought them up there today AND I called them Thursday to confirm if they turn slotted rotors. What a smurfing waste of time. Guess I'll be getting some blanks this weekend since there are no half decent machinists left in the auto industry.

I went with brake motive about 5000 miles ago and so far so good.

Turn your own rotors on your own brake lathe. Earn extra money!

I got 50k out of my DBA rotors before they warped and the HAWK pads still have meat.

O'Reilly's turned mine. I specifically said on the phone they were drilled and slotted and they said no problem. They were done in like hr and a half and it was $15 each.

the only places that would even talk to me about it wanted more money than new rotors.
they complain about breaking bits because of the interrupted cut.

they can do it if they just go slow and use the correct tooling but most places dont know how. they just stick em in a machine and push a button.

I just picked up my rears today. When I first called they said they couldnt do them. I said they had before and talked to a manager. I said as long as you adjust to smaller cuts and more passes they would be fine instead of deep cut(s) followed up by clean up passes that regular rotors get. They agreed and did them without issue. Maybe just talk to them and see if they change their mind.
