Hey guys,

I want to bring everyone up to speed about the 2013 G.O.N.E meet in Bettendorf, IA. This is going to be the 4th year for the meet, and we have some new things planned for this year.

When: September 19th-22nd

Where: Bettendorf, IA at the Isle of Capri Hotel and Casino

Why: Because it's fun!

What: Bring yourself and a GTO or a G8 (or a Chevy SS if you're lucky enough to get one)

For this year, we will as we have in previous years be drag racing at Cordova on Friday and hosting a car show on Saturday with awards handed out at both events. A banquet and awards ceremony will be held Sunday morning. There will also be drawings for sponsor donated prizes and a 50/50 raffle. But we're going to try some new things. The biggest being for the first time, we are going to try and include a track day as part of the meet.

On Wednesday, September 18th, Blackhawk Farms Raceway, which is just north of Rockford, IL on the IL/WI border, will be hosting a track day. I have spoken to the track about this event. Registration for the track day is $225, but if we can get a group of 15 GTOs and G8s together in a group, we will get a $25 discount per person on the entry fee. It is a proper, professionally run event hosted by BFR themselves with professional drivers on hand for instruction and ride alongs including classroom sessions for those interested. As of now, it is not an official part of the event, but if enough interest is generated, it will quickly become an official part of it. More information about the track day can be found here:

http://www.blackhawkfarms.com/?page_id=30

I will be organizing the track day event, so if you have any questions, please ask and I'll do my best to answer them.

There is also talk about attempting to break a certified Guiness World Record that was recently set by our friends in Australia. More on that as it develops...

As in the past 3 years, the official hotel for the meet will be the Isle of Capri and blocks of rooms will be reserved with a discounted rate. Also, we will have the top floor of the parking ramp reserved for us to park on and for the car show. For the drag racing at Cordova, we will have at least one hour of track time reserved just for us, we are trying to get that expanded this year to 2 hours. Last year's turnout made a strong case for that, a larger turnout this year will guarantee it!

If you are a vendor, we are always looking for sponsors for the meet who are willing to contribute either monetarily or with donations of parts that will be raffled off. Let me know if you would be interested in being involved in some way.

Finally, if you attended the meet last year, please post and share your experience. Last year we had 9 GTOs at the meet. I want to see a whole lot more this year! Registration for the meet will probably open sometime in May. When it does you will be able to register at:

Registration is now open! And if you think you would like to do the track day on Wednesday, let me know soon. We need 15 participants to get a group discount.

EDIT: This may be the last year the GONE meet will be in the Quad Cities for a while. Next year's meet will be in Texas, and it may move around the country from now on. So if you live a reasonable distance from the Quad Cities and you haven't been to the GONE meet, make sure you go this year. You won't regret it!

Event Update 7-5-13

An update for this year's meet. Registration is now open and if you register online before the July 31st, you get $10 off your registration. After that you can still register at the full price right up to the day of the event. We have our group discount code at the hotel. When you call to make your reservation, provide them with the code is PG82013.

Also, at this time, there will not be any organized track day on the Wednesday prior to the event. There just isn't enough interest in it and as much as I wanted to do it, it just isn't happening at the right time. We are still planning other activities for the official days of the event.

On a high note, I have been in contact with the event organizer and there is a possibility that GM may be bringing a Chevrolet SS to the event for us to check out, but this is not confirmed at this time. When there is an definite answer on this I will let you know.

blackhawk farms

Greetings Guys; I had high hopes that a bunch of you guys would show up and burn off some rubber and brakes. I was on the track 2 years ago for just 6 visitor laps (no passing & keep the speeds in check) so I kept my hot rod under 110 mph. Under all out blasts 130-140 mph would come up easy. After many years of on & off drag racing I have to say WOW. I'd like to do that again. I had hoped that we would get a nice group discount. Maybe another time. Thanks for the trying, Bob Jr.

Event Update: We may have a dyno!

The event organizer and I went to a portable dyno day yesterday on a freshly calibrated Dynojet. We spoke to the owner about bringing the dyno to the GONE meet and if we can get the money together he should be able to bring it and we can do dyno pulls on Friday before the drag racing, possibly on Saturday as well. We paid $80 for 2 pulls, more if you want to do dyno tuning but it shouldn't be more than $125. You have to tune yourself, it's just a dyno. Pricing for the meet should be roughly the same.

So you can tune your car, then go to the strip and see what it will do! We just need to guarantee we can get enough people interested to make the $800 that will be required to make it worth their while to drive the dyno down to the meet. We also need to find a place to set it up, but that shoudn't be too hard.

I just got off the phone with the event organizer, and he got an email from GM today. He has been in contact with the team that is in charge of the SS Performance. He got comfirmation today that they will be sending us a bunch of Pontiac and Chevy merchandise to give away at the meet, and they are working to get a demonstration tent set up at the meet for the Chevy SS Performance. If they can do that, they would also bring a car along for us to check out.

We are currently reserving slots for dyno pulls. Once all the registered slots are taken, you may still be able to get a dyno pull at the meet, but there are no guarantees. The cost is $80 for 2 pulls and $120 for 4 pulls. They do not do dyno tuning but if you have your own tuner and wideband it's a great opportunity to unlock some extra horsepower! The dyno will be there Friday and Saturday. Dyno timed can purchased when you register for the event.

Again, we have 2 hours of track time at Cordova on Friday just for our group as well as a group bracket race that evening.

Thanks to everyone who attended this years meet! Next year's meet is slated to be in San Antonio, TX around the same time in September. More information should be available in early 2014.

I'm sad to report that an official G.O.N.E meet will not take place in 2014. No one inside of the G8 community is willing to take over and relocate the meet to another location that is in the central US, and the original organizer has other life commitments he must attend to this year. I and a couple people from Wisconsin are working on a regional meet for this year in late September in the Wisconsin Dells that will include not just GTOs and G8s but all great Pontiacs. I'll provide details as I receive them.

Pontiac Adventures has replaced GONE. It takes place in Wisconsin Dells the last weekend of September this year.

This week-end

Greetings Guys & gals; Just a bump, I'm disappointed that this forum didn't get much input about this event. As I see a few guys from CHC (Chicago Holden Connection) are attending. I hope to meet up with one of the day tours Friday for a beer (New Glarus) & lunch (Blanchardville). Any passing through the state (Wi-IL) line area are welcome to join me Friday. 608 75 two five 9 two 5. Bob Jr.
