At least say Typhoon, Diablo VT, or some other cool AWD vehicle.
I can't say that since I have never owned any of those vehicles.
The DSM's were pretty far advanced for it's time in the technology that was used. How many AWD vehicles were available at the time the could run 14's stock, and 13's with a couple hundred $$$'s) that you could buy new for less than $20k?

Now a days if you have enough money you can get anything to beat anything. Question is could that guy in the talon do that all day long...cuz i know the vette can.

I gave two examples, DUH! Oh, did you say 14s stock? j/k

Everytime I go to the track I see a couple really fast AWD imports (EVO, Eclipse, WRX, etc . They have no trouble at all beating some really fast cars.
at the end of the day one of those guys is driving home in a new luxo supercar and the other in a plymouth lazer. id rather drive the slowest c5 on the planet than the mitsu.

Not to piss you off anymore, Underoath, but +1 DSM FTL. Sorry, I had to say it.

lol, no you can have your opinions - but 80% of the people on there (streetfire) have NOOO clue what theyre talking about or why they think the way they think. They just spew garbage from their fingers. I'd take that Vette in a heartbeat...but all the guys in the 11 second Civic hatchbacks will be crying that it sucks.
Theres no reasoning with em, so I just stopped reading comments
That was maybe an 1/8 mi. race. In the 1/4 or highway racing the z06 would have caught and passed him. He was allready gaining in that very short run. That talon was no joke though. They are neat cars.

A fellow DSM owner drove his car from Albequerque, NM to Phoenix. Regularly hitting speeds of 120+mph. Went to Speedworld and dumped off a bunch of 11's, then turned around and drove back home with the same disregard to the speed limit.
There are guys that have run 11's and 12's for many years, 80k miles plus and are still on their stock bottom end.
The motor was a very good design. The 4G63 was in the earlier Evo's and were rally raced. As long as meintenence was kept up, they lasted a long time.
why is it that people with awd always wanna go from a dig and then say the car that the just beat can't hang??? a properly driven awd will 99.9% beat a equally driven 2wd car....go from a roll and if he pulls him like on the video then...........DAMN HE GOT A FAST CAR...... but damn he did run away from that z06......

Just like a car that has monster top end but can't get off the line worth squat will not want to go from a dig. Then from a roll they will say that car can't hang.
They are just using the car where it works the best.
This is one reason I don't pay any heed to street races. Too many uncontrolled variables. Too easy to 'cheat' or jump the gun. Too easy for one car to be in there 'zone' while the other is in a bad gear/rpm. At the track, the variables are as controlled as they can be and the playing field is a set condition.
Give credit where it's due. The Z06 got spanked. I can't believe I'm hearing the ricer mentality of 'go from a roll'. That's the classic import driver FWD attitude. If you can't hookup RWD then spend some money on the suspension and quit complianing.
Turbo cars also pull very hard on the big end. The AWD will effect trap speeds but cutting 1.6x 60's on the street more then makes up for it.
i have a Galant VR-4, and that car can spank most cars you will ever see driven on public roads. it's AWD turbo. however, given enough run, a car like a Z06 or Viper will kill the VR-4 on the top end 1/4 mile.
as well, most 1/4 mile drags are won or lost at the launch. you smrf up the launch, it will be difficult to make up for that, even if your car is a Z06. the Z06 guy may not have been very experienced at launching, where the Mitsu guy may regularly do it.
in other words, it's not just the car itself that is winning or losing. it is very much a driver's race. please keep this in mind. the video, however, shows only the Vette trailing farther behind (yet gaining), and the Talon winning. but we don't know the other variables.
even if the Z06 pilot knew what he was doing at the launch, typically an AWD car will hookup nearly instantly. it is common knowledge that RWD performance cars have a hard time hooking up. they will often spin a little, if not a lot, and then go --all of which wastes valuable seconds of time-- enough to lose a race.
modify the suspension of the Z06 a bit over stock, and it will hook up better. it may still spin, as it is RWD, but this can be dialed and minimized (as well with drag radials with tall sidewalls). but AWD rally platform cars will nearly always impress on the starting line.

I bought my 91 Eclips GS turbo AWD brand new with 9 miles on the odo in 91 for $12,999. Great fast 205HP car.
At the end of the day what car would you rather be driving home? And what car would you rather take on a long trip through the desert. Its plain to see that Vette owner cant drive for shit. Put me behind that seat, and atleast we'd have a race. For that Talon, its all fun and games until that piston comes flying through the hood from too much boost. Not trying to hate, just hate the people that hate.
