Cops around here (he lives in the same county I do) aren't really strict it seems. I drove around with no mufflers for about a week and had to give it gas quite a few times in front of a cop, they never looked twice.

I'm just giving my opinion here, but I'm not digging the "exotic" sounding exhaust. I like a more Muscle sounding car with a deep rumble, instead of a high pitch import sound. No offence, and I'm sure you listened to different sounding exhaust and liked this one. Everyone has their own personal taste in what they want their car to sound like. I hope you enjoy it until the Po Po keeps bothering you, lol, lol. Good Luck "OCGoatHerd" and enjoy your new sound!!

Wow, I had no idea that my car sounded exotic. I hope you had your subwoofer on when you listened to the sound clip. It sounds low and growls in real life. The chambered exhaust sounds very much like a muscle car to me, but to each his own. Cops never even look at me out here in Orange County. No matter what we all think, the GTO is a blast to drive and sounds good with just about any muffler.

I just got my sweet thunders installed today!!! They are great. Just pure muscle-car sound. A very snarly, bassy, exhaust note. Nothing exotic about it! Not really all that loud just tooling around but when you step on it old ladies and small dogs start having heart attacks!

You can't beat this sound for the price. 60 bones for installation and 47 per exhaust. Most definitely a bargain and well worth it.

Thanks OC for showing the me light

Just mufflers

All I did was just take out the old mufflers and put the 18 inch Sweet Thunder mufflers a few inches away from the resonator. It is one of the least expensive routes that keep enough backpressure to not lose the nice low end torque on our GTO's.

If you want your car to sound like a farm truck with straight pipes, then that is the exhaust for you! You get what you pay for.

Just my opinion......to each his own.

www.sweet-thunder.com will give you the info. you need. They are out in Cadillac, Michigan. Mike is really nice. I just gave him a call and asked for the 18 inch mufflers with the 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. I'm glad you like the sound. Thanks, OCGoatHerd

I heard this system live today, with an H pipe in it. I believe the clip at the top of this thread is before the H pipe went in.

This is, to my ears, a kicking old school sound. I like it a lot.

Saw your videos on Sweet Thunder mufflers. I have a question for you. I believe your mufflers were installed about 2" behind your resonators. I'm assuming you had your regular mufflers cut out and a straight pipe put in it's place. This seems like "double work". Why would you NOT just put the Sweet Thunder mufflers in the same spot where the regular mufflers were cut out? Does this affect the sound? Also, when you cut out the 18 inches of pipe behind the resonators, was the shop able to use that 18" section in the area where you original mufflers were?

I called Sweet Thunder in Michigan. They really weren't a lot of help as they claim they were not very familiar with the GTO.

I would appreciate your response. I am listed at tomkat at this Web Site or you can email me direct at tomkat666@msn.com

Thanks,
tomkat

i figured out how to keep away from the "exotic sound". don't rev your engine over 1,500 rpm. it keeps the bass notes low. makes more of that sound you never heard back in the muscle car days . seriously. have you ever heard a 440 six pack or a 442 or even a old GTO? they don't sound the way some think they should sound now.

Tomkat,
I had them installed close to the resonator for sound purposes. Mike from Sweet Thunder (www.sweet-thunder.com) said to install them close to the resonator. It is your call, but I am satisfied with my sound. They put in straight pipes in place of the old mufflers. Give me a personal message if you need further details.

Thanks,

OcGoatHerd

Favorite quote from the Prius forum.

the prius tops out at 108... yeah.. i know.. it does 107 easy.. does 108 easy.. and you still get 15mpg... but that's it.. you can't go faster than 108.. trust me.. i tried when racing an M3 down a highway.. all downhill.. only reason he beat me ( i had low profiles on the car) is because he tops around 150.

I had a 4.8 V8 manual transmission (had to special order the thing) 2003 Z-71 4x4 regular cab. It had a 12 inch Allied (3 inch inner core) glasspack put backwards with 3 inch tubing all the way. The thing was straight out of Nascar and boy did people love the sound. No problems with the cops either. Sweet Thunder is not quite as loud as a 12 inch glasspack and will not pop as much. Just my two cents.

I've got the 5.3L, and I know the tubes are 2 3/4". I'll have to call tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I also want to ask about the muffler tips.

I like it alot. It might be a little bit loud, but it has a great sound to it.

I've got the Corsa Sport and haven't really heard it much outside of the car, but that exhaust sounds really nice.
