remote mount twin turbo

just wondering why many people have not gone the route with researching a twin turbo remote mount system for our cars. It would help keep the engine bay alot cooler to have the turbos underneath. I just though it might be a good idea to consider.

I knew a guy in Albany that did that with his TA, he had an "STS-Type" setup done with twins and it supposedly worked pretty well. I'm just still not sold on the whole idea and prefer it up front myself.

The c5 sts system is a twin. It works decent, but is still quite the lag monster. They tend to work pretty well on big CI motors (408+). Traditional front mounts work a lot better.

The APS kit is a twin turbo under-car system without any lag. And you are correct, with their setup the temp underhood is less than the stock engine, due to the turbo location and heat shielding they supply with their manifolds.

that is true. but that system costs upwards of 10,000 when all is said and done with (fuel system, tuning, installation, etc)

is there any chance for a system that is like 5,000- 6,000 complete w/ fuel. I thought the remote mount would be cheaper. i though it would be cheaper, since there is no need for relocating parts such as the PCM, power steering fluid (i think), etc

So how much do you think fuel mods and tune costs? $4K? Their new kit is $5995.

You get what you pay for in my opinion. STS works but it has lag issues, and I don't even like the way it hangs under the car. No comparison in performance to the APS kit in my opinion.

Just one comment on the new (work in progress) APS kit. That price is just speculation at this point. APS did a nice job of throwing out a number without committing to anything. They recently announced MSRP pricing for their new c5 kit (which is ~8k bare). I would expect the GTO kit to be somewhere in that same ballpark.

I may be totally wrong, but I'm afraid a bunch of people are waiting on something that will never happen at the speculated price (especially if all the competition dies on the vine since everyone is in wait mode).

I think you will see a "the price of raw materials has really went up"... story soon. I could be wrong. Hope I am.

im talkin installation, fuel and tune. Fuel system i expect to be $1000- $1200 depending on which products, tune would be about $500-$750, its gonna take more than just a few runs to get all the kinks out, and installation im guessing is about 25hrs at about $80/hour so that would be between $2000-$2500 including unforseen problems/fab.

So take 5995+1100+600+2200= 7895

Doing your own install = Not that hard, just a bit time consuming. All these forced inductions take time (money if you're paying someone to do it) to install, and turbos are normally more time consuming than other blowers.

i totally agree with you, but im 18. Im not going to be buying a TT kit for a few years, until i save up. I would like it professionally installed due to the fact that i can bring it back anytime and they will fix the problem. Also i do not have the time to have my car unavailable for weeks. I would love to do the install myself, but as you said it is very time consuming, and im not 100% sure of my abilities to install it myself. I would not want to mess up the oil return and oil feed lines to the turbo's so it would just kill everything. Mayb in a few years i will have enough money and time to do everything myself, it would be a great learning experience. i have done bolt on's myself (systems, intake, exhaust, soon headers) but not any major stuff

You have much to learn young grasshopper. Things will go wrong, but they won't be fixing it for you (at least not for free).

The STS system is a SINGLE tubo remote mount. the kit is 4995 for the turbo and everything that is needed in the installation. The fuel system upgrades are 995 (fuel pump and 42#injectors) To run anything over 7 psi you need to get an intercooler (air to air) 1300.....if you install it yourself you are looking somewhere around 6500 shipping included. That does not have the installation cost or the tuning cost. Supposedly it comes with a predator tuner with the sts tune in it. I would still have in tuned though.

Absolute truth. Anyone who's seen an APS kit (let alone driven/ridden in a vehicle so equipped), will tell you there is a difference.

Not yet. I'm very close though. It is so close I can taste it.

Crazy stuff has been happening that has nothing to do with the car (wife was in the hospital, work.....). I'm hoping it will be runninng this weekend, but I have been saying that for so many weeks now, that I'm just going to assume that something else will come up.

Yup, Jason- I didn't know he went back to a "normal" setup- I told him to keep the first one . For some reason, I thought he sold the car though- maybe because he always has another project going on.

Trust me, I did not even think about my car while all that was going on (ok, maybe here and there since it was really not that serious). She is running strong again now (the wife). I just need to get the car doing the same thing.

Go on over to the STS website and price out an STS kit. Select the kit in your cart and then select the necessary options After Kit,fuel, injectors, mandatory gauge, intercooler, BOV, wastegate spring, tune, etc etc...you are looking at more.

I was shocked when I did it. I did the setup with the next size turbo upgrade and it was $8400. That predator tune doesnt come free. Even without the upgrade you are still at around 8k.

I was seriously considering an STS but at that price something else is in my future.

Price the kit from a vendor, price your looking at is retail. Dont buy their intercooler, tune, injectors etc(once again from a vendor) and many of us are using a ebay intercooler. You can piece together a intercooler for $300-$500 rather than sts $995 cooler.

I not sayin its bargin basement cheap but alot less than list prices.

Still, when there are kits like the Gen-TT out there it makes the STS seem even more overpriced.

Going your method, do you think an STS with the ebay intercooler, a tune and all the necessary pieces, you can get the TOTAL price to $6500?

If so, PM me and show me where to buy.

STS overpriced

Let's do the math:

2004 STS Kit $4495
Diablo Sport predato Tune $495
Shipping $120
STS Current Promo Discount (good until Monday) - $400
Mongillo Motors additional Instant Rebate (for additional items) -400

Total for complete kit $4310

Show me another forced induction kit that is significantly cheaper than that, that can make that kind of power.

Oh, and as far as lag goes, thats a misconception. I can build full boost at 2500 rpms and I have the scans to prove it. Click this link for a demo of NO LAG
