Lightweight Holden Skidplate

I decided to post up some info about the Holden skidplate here instead of just the buyer feedback section since a lot of people have asked about it.

I was looking into getting a lightweight version of our skid plate (covers the aluminum oil pan....previously discussed why this is important) since the stocker weighs a crap-ton when doing oil changes and I like all my teeth. The added bonus of lighter weight up front for a suspension nerd like myself was nice too.

So I looked into getting the BMR skid plate. A nice piece but for the $130 plus shipping for a thin peice of metal....no thanks. I don't really like the SLP one because of the open oil filter area and it's still kind of expensive. That brought me to the Holden one recommended by a couple members on this site.

Found out that the Holden one is actually a genuine GM part that is one of the many Holden installed options we don't get here in the US...big surprise. It weighs atleast a good 10lbs lighter than the big, heavy stock one, looks a lot like the aluminum BMR one and here's the great part: only 35 bucks. Sure shipping was insane at 40 bucks from Australia to NYC but it only took 3 business days to get to me and was still a lot cheaper than the BMR or SLP one. I ordered it last thursday and it came today.

Order was placed through Sean Beatty who is the parts manager at Hunter Holden (dealership in Australia). I can't say enough good things about this guy, really nice guy to talk to (called me "mate!" I felt special after that hah), got the skid plate out to me really quick, answered all my emails within minutes and was even nice enough to call me to get my CC info when I found out I was too retarded to dial internationally from my cell

Definitely a worthy investment if you want a cheap, lightweight skid plate that still protects the entire oil pan area.

Part number is - 92078567

PM me for more info.....or just do a search

Sorry for the crappy cell phone quality:

Jacked phobos' pic from another thread of the Part number :

it doesnt look like it would take a hard hit on something like a curb and hold up. thats why i went with a BMR skidplate.

i got mine for $100 shipped so that wasnt bad.

This is a very nice piece, and Sean is an upstanding guy to deal with.

This is a quality piece, and a must for anyone trying to shed a few pounds.

Having seen both in person now I can definitely say the quality/strength of the piece is on par with the BMR skid plate so I wouldn't say that this is any more "dangerous" to run with than the BMR one. Keep in mind that yes the stock one should definitely hold up better in the event that you'd have to use it (I don't want to find out if I'm right on that or not) this is also a factory option from Holden. So they atleast do trust to put this on the car heh

The steel one is probably a little more durable, but honestly, if you hit something that's serious enough to shred the aluminum plate, there's a good chance it would still be pretty freaking intense with the stock one on there.

you've probably got bigger problems in that situation.

Dude, if you've got a curb hitting your skid plate, you have much bigger issues.

Said he'd get it shipped to me "flat out like a lizard drinkin', mate." Hope that means fast Good guys down there!

The BMR plate looks much thicker than that. How thick is that piece?

The material its made of reminds me of the flimsy HVAC ducting.

I've got one sitting here too! It's at least 8-10 ga which is about about 4-5 times as thick as HVAC ducting. It is worth the money including shipping...
I ordered mine from Sean also, It was $70 bucks to my door. great guys down under... IMO....

I'll be down under in March. I should probably get to a dealer and see if I can get one and then pack it in the luggage.

WRP and i have both weighed in on this before. we've both bottomed out the skid plate on drive ways. i'd only drive with the stock or SLP plate on. that light weight one is good enough for stones and tire tread but it isn't going to be that great for deflecting the weight of the car when it bottoms out. just my 2 cents. good luck

For reference, a nickel is ~0.078" thick, which translates to (roughly) 14 gauge sheet.

8 ga = ~0.1644"
10 ga = ~0.1345"
12 ga = ~0.1046"
14 ga = ~0.0747"

If the Holden piece is indeed 8-10 gauge, then it's pretty hefty. The photos I've seen of it make it look like it's closer to 16 gauge sheet, though.

i was making a comparison. ive never hit anything in my car yet but what im getting at is since its a holden part are their cars subjected to similar abuse as here? like road debris and speed bumps ect?

im curious since GTOs didnt meet safety stds. here until things were changed.

Exactly what I've been doing. It's not a pain in the ass but with the suspension work I'm doing and the times I'm going to take the car to the track it was a worthy investment to drop down the weight a bit. As I said the oil change stuff is made easier now but it's not the only reason I looked into it.

Sean's the best. I've bought a ton of stuff from him. Delivery, by the Post Office no less, is fast. His prices are outstanding, too. I even asked him about a rocker panel drainage problems -- and he e-mails me a PDF addressing the issue from Holden. Great guy. Can't say enough good things about him. I really wish Hunter Holden would be a sponsor on here, because I've seen people getting hosed on parts that I know he sells for a lot less.

As for the lightweight skidplate, it is now on my things to buy list. Thank you very, very much for sharing this.

This sucks

I knew I should have done some research on parts before I went out and bought them. I am gonna look at this optimistically; I got hosed on the BMR skidplate for 125.00 shipped, but it does have "BMR" scratched into it. Thats probably where the extra cost comes from. Does anybody have any input on the BMR strut tower brace or the subframe connector's?
