Rod right through the side of the block. It was kind of cool.
I picked up a Riding lawn mower on the side of the road, sign said "Free Needs Battery"
Well, $50 battery, Oil change(or more accurately putting oil in the motor), un-seizing the motor by turning it by hand. Cleaning @ 1/2 ton of carbon off of the spark plug, replacing the starter and solinoid (had another tractor for donor parts) and she fired right up. So I shut her right down and pullled the Deck.
Off with the blades, sharpen them up good. (hey, what is that wet on my finger?) Bandage my finger, finish sharping the blades, clean deck, reinstall blades, reinstall Deck. (Got to have a clean deck)
Finally, she is back together. I fire her up and I am about to spin the blades up for the first time. Oh crap, I do that and I'll cover the GTO in grass matter. SO I drive her out into the yard. I'm not 3 feet off the drive way and Bang!!! The starter goes flying off the side (putter putter stop) of the mower and is flopping around on the positive lead... How the hell? I tightened the bolts up nice and snug. So I hop on down and take a look. There is a hole in the side of the motor @ 4" square. Oh look at that, the end of the rod is on the ground. That was cool as hell. I guess there was a little more damage inside than I thought..
Anyone got an extra 14.5 HP Brigg's sitting around?

We had an old chitcan of a push mower a few years back. Our yard is terrible on equipment and this old mower was on it's last legs. Out mowing one day and BAM. Huge hole in the side of the block...
There were pieces of aluminum everywhere. It was great. I was surprised how much of a kick I got out of it after all the work I put into getting her running. .
The 'donor' mower blows blue smoke like a fog machine but the Deck and frame of the blown mower rocks. I may have to pull the crap motor to replace the blown motor.
Here I am thinking you blew your motor in the GTO. Butthead!! That video was funny. Redneck like, LOL

Yep, and it comes with a free frame, hydro, deck, steering wheel, four tires, and husquarvana stickers. Motor is $400 and Ill throw the rest of the stuff in for free. Pickup only.
I have a Crafstsman thats over 12 years old and has been run into the dirt pretty much. It needed to be painted so thats what I did last weekend. Its going to be a rock tribute machine. Its gloss black and will be sporting many graphics.
So your "Free" mower cost you what?: A 1/2 day of your life and 50 bucks?
Edited because I saw something shiny while typing the OP.

I had an old Lawn Boy 2-stroke mower I inherited from my parents when I moved into my first house. It wasn't anything special.. not even self propelled. It was all beat up, and I was bored.
I ended up stripping it all the way down and rebuilding it. Repained the deck Kawasaki Green, painted the engine cover white and gave it the full tune up (including muffler baffle removal mod).
Louder than hell after that...
It died shortly thereafter... something went wrong with part of the carb and I gave up...
I'd love to make a thumper motor work like one of those NHRA Jr. dragsters... get like 45 hp on a push mower; it would be interesting.
