Arrow $3 Custom exhaust solution with 3 different loudness settings

So I got bored on friday...lol

I'm getting exhaust soon but I just had to hear what it would sound like. I didnt want to just unbolt the mufflers and let them hang or take them off completely...thats just ghetto.

So I went to the hardware store and bought some washer for 25 cents each. Basically I unbolted the exhaust and put the washer on the bolts in between the pipes and then tightened the bolts back down. Takes less than 10 minutes.

What's needed:
*Washers (1,2 or 3 for each bolt)
*15mm wrench or socket
*Jack & Jack stand for safety. or somehow make room for you to get under the back of the car. I can just crawl under
*REMOVE GASKETS!!! They burn up and turn crispy.

You can only fit 3 on each bolt.
*3 is loud, but not bad. Clacks at WOT (see vids)
2 like 3
1 Idles like stock, but sounds great (kinda exotic) at WOT

This is a fun setup for cruising on the weekends

Enjoy!

*3 Washer Vids:

Decel (With shot of washers)

"Exhaust leaks" at the back are way different from exhaust leaks at the front. It the same as if I put straight pipes in. Plus, it was just a temporary solution.

I'm with him, that doesn't make sense to me. I was going nuts on my Nissan trying to make sure I didn't have any gaps. It took me forever to get it where I wanted it.

Hmmmmm, you know those big holes at the end of the exhaust, the ones with chrome around them? Those are big old exhaust leaks right. Leaks are only bad depending on where they are.

Yes, I get the concept. Typically it sounds like crap any time it's escaping before the tips.

I guess on an 05/06 with the mufflers bolting up by the axle, might not be too bad. But for us 04 guys... the only place to do that is at the mid pipes and that would sound like ass.

Yeah this is more for the 05/06 guys. Doing this to an 04 would sound terrible.

I just don't get it. Sure any car would sound like that if you create a leak in the plumbing. And taking the mufflers off completely doesn't make any sense to me either. OK I get it, the car sounds like something from NASCAR, but that's ok for the track. For the street it just sounds like a car without the mufflers, period. To ME and only me it sounds like........well for lack of another word, CRAP. But what do I know, I'm old and used to a more low rumble and a more refined muscle car sound, but to each their own.........

Sounds good. I don't know much but it doesn't seem much different than installing cutouts (you just can't close yours on the fly), which also sound good. Anyway, if you like it that's all that matters. Thanks for sharing the tip!

Interesting idea. That's really not too far away from Supertrapp mufflers in concept.

ok i just did this. i used 2 3/8 in washers and one 3/8 locking washer. you will have to use a pair of wire cutters to spread the locking washer out a bit if you go that route. it actually worked out for me because it held the other 2 washers in.

1st i took the mufflers off completly because... well... i was curious. damn is that thing loud without mufflers. i then put them back in with the washers and fired her up. it does sound really good. basically it sounds exactly like it does without the mufflers just not insanly loud. so if you like the mufflerless note then definatly jump on this. it is the equivilant of having a cat back installed on the car loudness wise.

i dont think anybody should flame the OP because it is definatly a great mod.

lol hey it will do until i get my parts put on in a month. my sig list is sitting in my garage. i love the sound but there is a bit too much crackle on decel for my taste. once everything goes on the washers come off. hey... its a cheap cat back system that does sound really good.

hey i was just curious... will this cause you to lose any power or gas mileage??? i got on it a little and it did feel notacibly slower. maybe its just me subconciously expecting the car to go faster because its louder.
