Cam/Headers - Finally Dynotuned 393RWHP

So I've been rolling 373/356 for along time on a basic tune in my PCM. (running a little rich WOT)

Finally had a nice day and got a dyno tune done.

393/376 @ 13.1 a/f

Graph to come tommorow.

That is nice for stock heads. The almost identical cam in my 2000 vette only made 383 to the wheels with stock heads.
I have cats on the car, but those are still great numbers, good job. I love the 224 grinds, they make great HP and torque and are great drivers.

Nice numbers! All these cam only numbers are making me want to install just a cam and leave heads to do later.

I bet that catback will get you closer to 400, if not make you hit 400.

TypeR0149: losing the cats is going to only pick you up 2 HP or so I bet.. Aftermarket cats flow very well.

I'd rather keep my factory catback - I would rather do anything I can to keep it the way it sounds ....its perfect now. I want to do an 05 bumper, 05 mufflers, and make an x-system that goes between the headers and mufflers.

Ditiching the cats is worth more than 2.

What kind of gains are you looking at with a dyno tune if you only run a catback exhaust and CAI with the rest stock? Is a dyno tune worth it or is it mostly only good with engine mods?

Ditiching the cats is worth more than 2.

I personally think that you would gain more with an aftermarket catback than running catless. I also have a few friends that had Non-Sponsor headers on their F-bodies, and one gained 2 RWHP without cats, and one actually lost 1 RWHP. Not sure of your knowledge of the Non-Sponsor header system for the F-bodies, but they came with cats & ORPs and you could swap them out pretty quickly. Just my $.02, i'll see if they still have the dyno sheets from their cat tests and i'll post em up. Those restrictions in the stock exhaust are just too big when you start making close to 400RWHP.

Still good numbers either way..

Thoes are some phat numbers DY! What do you think of the driveability before vs. after full tune?

Cat back exhausts don't do much for GTOs, cept for a few compressed sections of the exhaust its pretty free flowing. The only differance I can tell after switching from LT no cats and loudmouth to LT no cats and stock exhaust is now I sound stealthy with the same power

Granted DY may pick up 2-3 rwhp sounding like a NHRA pro stock car, but that trade off isn't worth it. Do you want a chance at hussling people at the track?

DYs exhaust sound could almost pass for a stock cammed motor Time to go around asking for the hit.

Not much more. Some cars just make more than others... not to mention that the air conditions here are very nice right now so you'd problably gain power just from that. I plan on doing heads soon - and they are worth HP

Isnt your local dyno day this weekend?

Actually I think it drives a little better now. The fueling is right on so really it should be better. -- and I cant race anyone until I get rid of the wheel hop. Doesnt do me any good in a race to have the power if I cant get it down to the ground.

Right - with pretty much stock cars they don't gain much - has any actually tried a dyno after adding a catback on a car that had ~400RWHP?

You have the loudmouth of course it sounds pro stock.. My powerflow isn't bad at all, and there are a couple aftermarket catbacks that are decently quiet. The B&B catback will be one of the quietest - as it was on the LS1 F-bodies. (but it still was a good performer.)

That is a bit of a contradiction there isn't it?

You are right though it does sound perfect. Nice numbers DY.

Why so long a wait on the tune? I thought you did a tune 6 month back?

I think the 05 mufflers should sound similar to the 04's .... I'm willing to do that to get the 05 back bumper.

The file way back was just a file that would idle and be close for a cam.

Other than that I've been so busy and it just never happened in fall as the car was running fine. But the air was good and weather was good so I drove the car today and thought might as well try for some higher numbers. I just wanted 380 ... I was VERY happy with the end results.
