Holy cow JW33! Seemed like he was shifting very early, but guess with the spray it was getting to redline in a hurry. Man, 1-2 and 2-3 shifts were unbelievably fast (sounded almost like an pneumatic shifter on a motorcycle), with 3-4 more normal.
Hey, may I ask what's the deal with the spray when drag racing? At what point do you turn it on? And I imagine it stays on all the drag race, with the throttle pinned, correct?
Seems like drag racing a manual sprayed car requires the ultimate skill. Great subject. Thanks for being so helpful with my stupid questions.

Until now, I truly believed (based on a ton on input on this board) an automatic car had a clear advantage over a manual on a drag race, but after watching these videos, I don't know if that's true anymore. And I'm talking about equally skilled drivers on both, and also assuming comparatively modded cars (clutch/shifter vs stall converter, etc.)
So what's your take? And to make it more interesting, let's assume 3 scenarios:
1. Super skilled drivers on bone stock LS2 GTOs: an A4 vs M6.
2. Same drivers but with all possible NON-ENGINE improvements on both: stall converter, beefed up internals, etc. on A4 vs clutch/master cyl/slave/shifter on the M6. And both with equal shaft/diff/suspension improvements.
3. Same as #2, but both engines with the same supercharger (and other necessary engine upgrades).
Guess my real curiosity is each might have an advantage with different states of tune; that's what I want to find out. Let's keep the subject going. Take care.

04 YJ, M6, 05 hood, Predator tune, Kooks LT's and catless mids, Flowmasters and custom built CB, StolenFox H-pipe, New Era CAI, Lou's Short stick and Black Hurst ball, 19in Ruff Racing R930's staggered.
That guy posts on Hardcore 5.0 and can drive that thing. If I remember right, it was just a Tremec 3550 out of the box or something, no work done to the trans. He has an in car video that is bad ass as well:

WOW!! Now that's shifting like any automatic! The stock GTO shifter can never ever be that quick. I've made many passes in my car with the stock shifter and would never be that good. The again I'm afraid to powershift it! I need to step up to a better shifter!
If I can ever find a video of Ronnie Sox of 'Sox and Martin' fame in his 70 Pro Stock Cuda, you'll be impress by his shifting. He wasn't called 'Mr 4 Speed' for nothing!

Damn, wish he had the camera pointed to the pedals and shifter as well. That's even quicker than the first video. Sounds almost like an F1 car. And it's a freaking Mustang. Impressive indeed.

Yeah, as others have said... with a good driver a GTO can be shifted just like that F-body. When I had my '04 all I had was a GMM Ripshift. Stock clutch and all. Once I started learning how to launch the car I start learning how to shift fast. I never power shifted or anything-- the clutch pedal went in and came back out on every shift, and gas pedal was completely let off at every shift. This is a video of me making a pass at MIR last winter in the old GTO. Nowhere NEAR as quick as that Mustang that was posted, but still pretty darn fast from what anyone else has told me.
The 1-2 doesn't sound as fast, but I think it's because I was passing by the camera. But the 2-3 and 3-4 are noticeable.
The guy bent his knees and then dropped his hands. You went on first movemennt and the other guy was sleeping on the line. So you get the kill and the win.

I've shifted my acura that fast too....but no where near the excitement, acceleration, front wheel pull, sound or fun. Plus I get a jingle from the change in my ashtray when my front wheels go.. "chugchugchug"
I've slowed down my shifting in the cold weather, my eagle F1s hook like butter on ice on cold asphalt and she can get pretty squirrely on the 2-3 shift. But I think I have to go practice real quick.

+1
Powershifting with marginal traction in these cars can get... Interesting.
My fbody wasnt like that though. It would track pretty straight on a spun 2-3 shift.
