I found a 1/2 NPT gate type check valve ($10) at the corner hardware store and put that in the suction line from the sump to the return pump. Problem solved. It looks like not a drop of oil in the pipes since I drilled the vent hole. I'm leaving the vent hole so the turbo can drain into the sump easier. On to whats got me excited! Oh, and I cut the line from the check valve to the pump extra long to put some upward pressure on the pump and it is much quiter. Can't hear it but half the time now.

Glad to see things starting to fall together for you! Spacers and o-rings should be in today correct? And then you'll be ready to play!!!

OEM fuel system numbers on gas

I'm happy. I'm happy A good run with no problems.
OEM tune and OEM injectors
Mild brake torqueing for the launch.
4 psi in 2nd, 6.5 psi in 3rd.

0-60 mph 4.07 sec
1/4 mile 12.22@118 121.5 on G-tech meter.
I'll be in the 11's on gas soon

It went lean at the top of second and all the way through 3rd. This is the last time on the OEM injectors. Plenty of KR also. Glad I didn't blow it up. I wish I knew what the AFR was. .83 on the NB.

That's it. No more OEM, injectors go in today. Testing on them with gas then on to E-85. I still need to get a video, this MF sounds awesome. Good times.

Predator viewer and Excel log attached.

Getting a little antsy are we? lol Dont blow her up. Would suck to know you had to replace everything after not waiting half a day on 30-40 bucks worth of parts!

And if that G-tech is anywhere near close you should be in the 11s no prob after gettin the fuel she needs

I just had to do one final test with the stock fuel sytem cause my injector spacers and o-rings are "out for delivery" now. I wish I could control the boost low enough to see what PSI and times the OEM fuel system is good for without blowing up. On the other hand I can't get the boost high enough to make good use of the Ethanol. I see a turbo change in the future. I'll still have less than $2,000 in it.

If I'm understanding the vent hole right, you may want to think about putting a bronze filter in that hole to prevent dirt from getting into the oil supply.

I can hear it going down the track now (at least if you run it before the bigger injectors).

Ping, knock, ping, knock, ping, BOOM!

j/k

Glad to see she's finally up and running (mostly) well.

It hasn't happened because the oil is draining out of the sump onto the ground instead of inside the turbo.

And the return pump isn't nearly as loud with the relocate and sump. Much better, it rarely bothers me now.

Should have some final 1/4 numbers in a few days and dyno numbers within a week.

maybe i missed the post where you explained this.. but why is there oil leaking into the charge tube? from the bearings in the turbo or where is it coming from?

She's always been running. I just had to avoid boosting 3rd gear, even though I did it half a dozen times anyway. My biggest problem was oil in the pipes due to me not using a check valve in the oil return. Yeah, don't do that. Oil on the MAF causes kicking and bucking.

The injectors are in, only took an hour. The poor little Predator is doing its best to keep these monster 60's in check. It only allows for a 40% decrease in fuel across the board which was not enough on gas, maybe for E-85, we'll see later. But fortunately there is a way to trick it into resetting the slider to zero while keeping the 40% in the tune. I did that and it seems to be doing well on LTFT's with a 80% reduction. Poor little tool. I also don't have a MAF limit problem. It must have raised that also.

I didn't have a check valve in the oil return line and when I parked it oil was draining back into the turbo and leaking into all the pipes. A lot of it too. Causing me to think I had a MAF limit problem that was really oil on the MAF.

I didn't realize until I built an oil sump for the turbo and drilled a vent hole in the top of it. When I saw oil coming out of that sump vent, which meant it was full, I knew what was up.

Ha ha, thanks. What is a typical IAT for a turbo car in boost? I'm around the 140 range at the end of a quarter. And what is too high and a sign that a intercooler is needed?

Not that I'm looking to get one, just want to know. These injectors are hard for the box tune Predator to deal with, best I can do is a LTFT of -6% and it looks like at idle the pulse width hits 1 ms and can't go below that. Oh well, just observations, not hurting my feelings any.

I've gotten tired of the KR, single digit timing, and trying to tune for gas so it's off to Ethanol I go.

Not real sure on turbos, but with my procharger, typical driving on an 80 degree day is usually right around 105. If I sit in traffic on a hot day it can get up to 135ish, but very rarely does it ever get to 140. Then within a couple minutes of getting going, it dips right back to 100ish due to the intercooler. Sorry I'm not more help..

Doesn't sound too bad for a non-intercooled turbo, but if you ever decide to crank the boost up, it seems to go up exponentially. lol

Numbers and fun

Woo who. It's game on now. The fun has begun.
She's running quick and smooth. No issues at all.
New personal bests this morning. And I got back what I lost N\A by break torqueing. I've got to push that just a little harder and I'll be in the 11's. So far all runs on the Nitto NT-01's have been without heating them.

I'm in the time slot of the old big block screamers now, Viper? yeah.

0-60 3.97
1\4 mile 12.1@120 123.4 on G-tech

Log attached: still a little lean at the top of 3rd gear.
Good timing, 21.5 in 1st, 19 in 2nd, 16 in third. I love Ethanol, was single digits with gas.

Poor little Predator is hanging in there but it's maxed out.
My next step in tinkering is to move the oil sending unit to the fuel rail so I can log fuel pressure and see what's going on there.

Press

Hay, I've had a little press myself about the work I've done with Ethanol

I think a $1600 turbo kit that's good for 11's is worth another article.

thanks for the support.

I need to start saving money for a lawyer to get me out of jail. Damn this thing really comes on hard starting at about 100 MPH. I blasted up to 135 like it was nothing this morning.

Time for a video, this thing sounds great!

Why, why, why do you have to post that video!!! Dammit, now I'm going to have to turn the boost up!

Seriously though, we need to talk about an alky system for me, and start kicking the boost up. Unfortunately, I'm still on the stock pistons, so it still won't run like yours but...
