i have a 06 m6, and every time i launch it hops like a bitch, i am looking at drag bags, but idk if they require a compresser, also i was wondering if anyone had them and how they liked them. And if anyother mods like sway bar, and bushings and stuff like that would make that much of a diff?
There is allot to defeating wheel hop and you will hardly eliminate it. There is allot of parts you can get, that reduce it. Air bags are probably the most cost effective single mod and made a significant difference on my car. I got the Air Lift bags for the Mazda MPV and recommend them and no, you don´t need a compressor. If you search the subject on this board you will find enough to last you days, reading it.

Is it just me or does this question get asked almost every day?
To answer your question, there are many things you can do to lessen wheel hop, but it's almost impossible to eliminate, especially with an M6. It's due to the fact we have an IRS. Pedders Big Bore shocks, springs (0 drop or +5/16 drag springs in order to use bags), x-member bushings, control arm bushings, differential insert, etc. OH, and most importantly....TIRES! Make sure you have good tires. I switched from the stock KDWS to RE-01Rs and it helped tremendously.

As everyone has mentioned, wheel hop varies car to car. It can be approached in steps and no individual upgrade will gaurentee 100% elimination:
1. springs, with higher rates and not collapsed
2. Shocks, like our 9095s or 9195
3. Diff insert, EP1157
4. Xmember bush, EP1145
5. lower rear control arm bush, specifically the left inner EP7023.
Why did I pick on the inner rear conrol arm bushes? An extremely high % of rear GTOs that we are seeing will show the left rear inner lower control arm bushing, when inspected, will show the bolt for the bushing appear to be sigfnificantly off centered. That is because of the large voids in the inner rear bushes. You do not see this a lot on the right side, just the left.
Tires and tire pressures are another severe wheel hop problem
So far so good on my '05. I just installed my Pedders 1.5" lift springs and swapped out my Toyo's for GoodYear F1/AS and I don't have nearly the hop problem I had before. I'm sure i'll still have some if I really get on it, but i can push it a lot harder now than I could before.
Thanks for the Pedders, Wretched Motorsports!
(Not an easy install for me but I got'er done. The directions out there show the '04 really well, but I couldn't find much on the '05. It was slightly different with the exhaust being in the way of allowing the drivers side drive shaft dropping down.)
+1, Well maybe not 100% but close to..
Personally I feel that all the extra suspension upgrades cost way to much and do not cure wheel hop any more than $100 bucks worth of air/drag bags.. Now this would apply to drag racing only (no clue about road racing)
I do know that some of the quickest gto's on this forum run nothing more than bags and DR's and are very successful

Instead of the diff insert just step up to the harrop cover. Get a good set of tires and re-do the entire suspension. Another route is just swap in a SRA. Fully built IRS w/ gears is about the same cost as a SRA swap.

If you get DB's it willl be totally gone....I spun in this video on the street for about an 1/8th mile.....Try doing that in yours and you will leave a trail of piece's.... http://www.racevideoforums.com/forum...s-mustang.html
i'd bet the TOTALLY cured cars are robomatics. manual shifts are a lot touchier. to echo the responses TIRES!!! are the most important thing with the other suspension stuff helping and bags being a nice inexpensive aid. i agree the inner control arm bush is a problem spot with the voids and it's a little bit of a problem replacing it but not impossible for the DIY. a little heat and a big bolt with appropriate washers got mine out in minutes.
Ive done alot to try and get rid of wheel hop, starting with bags and ET streets (bias ply slick, not a radial tire) and they did a decent job at the strip. Because of the slicks i wasnt hopping at all but on street tires i was still hopping like crazy. I then added the harrop diff cover and ran like that for a while. The harrop made a difference, but only slight (at least in my experience) but it did help firm up the rear a good deal. This year ive done the big bore shocks and 5/16 raise springs X memeber bushings and lower controll arm bushings. With my slicks i get no hop at all (at least not that i can feel from inside the car) and im spinning a good deal when i launch...On the street i STILL get some wheel hop, but its no where near as violent at it was from the factory.
