Last Oct a bunch of us got together and hit the Tail of the Dragon and the Cherahala Skyway. I have a plan to do this again this year. This is what I have figured out after talking with others about doing this again. Meet at the west end of the dragon on Oct 10th around 9am for those comming from the west, Meet at deals Gap for those from the east. Play on the Dragon till around noon, eat at Deals Gap. Then head for the Skyway in Robbinsville to do the Dragon/ Skyway loop. After this head for Pigeon Forge for the night. Sat Oct 11th play in and around PF, let the wifes, gf or whoever wants to go shopping, while the others do go carts, putt putt or what else you want to do. Meet for dinner. Sun. Oct the 12th Head for the Devils Triangle west of Knoxville after breakfast. After lunch say our goodbyes and head for home. Who wants to do it!

BUstd, you are more than welcome to join us! Last year we had people from North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and Virginia. So this year might as well add someone from Florida too!
Would love to go, but trying to get off in Nov. for the Shootout, so probably can't do Oct. as well. Going to miss it again

While it's still a fun drive, the Dragon may no longer be all it was cracked up to be in the past. When I've driven along there, the highway patrol was quite visible. There is also a fair amount of sight-seeing traffic, though November would be well past the peak of fall leaf color. However with all the mini-vans, Harleys, bicyclists and (I kid you not) Vespa motorscooters, it can be hard to get in a long run.

I'm in. Went last year and had a ball but had to leave early to get home for a Halloween Party. Moonshiner, PM if you want to convoy, carpool, split hotel costs. Any other CGH/Raleigh Goats?

We were just talking about doing this, just not sure how the timing is for everyone here who was interested.

You'd be surprised what that car can do behind a tow truck.
I'll be in a FWD car if I go, so no worries there.
Probably the closest place to stay would be in Sweetwater Tn. This is where I will stay Thursday night my self. Only about 45 min from the Dragon. There are several name brand motels there. For Friday and Saturday stay in Pigeon Forge Tn. For info on P/F go to mypigeonforge.com
I would be interested if the organizers of the HHI Concours d'Elegance don't choose my car to be in the show the last weekend of October first of November..
I've been wanting to go up there in the GTO for awhile now.
last year we took the SRX. LOL.
You can put me down as tentative.
I would only come Friday and not spend the night.
probably would come in from the NC side. But not sure.

I am also interested in the group discount thing for rooming and if anyone wants to room up I will do it to save money, and of course I will have my GF. I hope I have my GPS in by then so I can get to these places I have never heard of.
Also there's some in Wear's Valley we stayed in last year. It's about 6 miles from PF on the way to the dragon (on 321). http://www.covemountain.com/
Also nice, but the view is more of the valley. Little less $$
Put this in Google Maps for the TN side of the dragon:
US-129 @35.524201, -83.993110
NC side:
US-129 @35.467742, -83.919984
