You guys want to adopt a sister? Seriously way to go bigger and better. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. Will figure that out when I find out what exactly happened.

Well...for the short block...maybe $3000 or so in parts, Darton sleeve install was $1500, and the other block work and assembly was about $2000.

Including all the head work, valve train and clutch, I've got over $9 grand in this motor. I wasn't planning to spend that much. I just wanted to fix it with a few upgrades; but of course one thing led to another. When I started this project I didn't believe that people were spending 10 grand on a good NA motor build but now I am a believer.

And I could have spent more, i.e. better heads and a new cam(I'm using the one that was in the car before it exploded). But I'm out of money on this project...for now.

Yha, I think if my tranny goes, it won't have anything to do with a RP, but probably something to do with close to 600 crank hp(estimated).

Update(didn't want anybody to think I forgot):

Car's back together and at the tuner. Of course my computer was locked up by the last tuner so had to deal with that...only disaster #8457632 for this build. Should be tuned pretty soon. I'll also have some more pics up soon as well.

Picked up from the tuner today! They just put a good base tune on it for the break in. It has some valve train noise. I strongly believe that some of the new rockers are hitting the baffle in the valve covers. I'm going to pick up some spacers and get it taken care of. Then drive it about 400-500 miles and back to Nick at Williams Performance to get a good dyno tune. Pics are still coming.

Great looking motor. You'll love the power-on-demand. I am very happy with my 427 so far.

is there any particular reason you went with Darton sleeves vs. a new block? the only reason i could see is that you can use ported stock heads with a sleeved LS2, where as with a LSX block you need the new 6 bolt design heads.

With an LSX block you can use any of the exhisting heads. All the bolt patterns are the same. The LSX block has provision for the extra bolts which dont have to be used. As for the new block, if he wanted a 427 then he would have to use either an L92 block or LS7. Since he had the LS2 blockall he had to do was getting it sleeved. The Darton sleeves are very strong and looking at the thickness they can be rehoned whenever he wants to freshen up the block.

Well I was just going to go with a 403 but then my machine shop found a cracked cylinder. I wanted to keep with an aluminum block for weight and price was not too bad. About $1500 installed. When I started this project, it all depended on the block being in good shape. I was too far in to get a new block.

I was still going to keep the 403 as I already had the rotating assembly. I sent the block to another shop up north for the sleeves. Of course the block came back with the wrong sleeves in it (too big). At that point I traded my diamond 4.030s for Wiseco 4.125 pistons. I was worried that I was starting to build an all out race motor. This is supposed to be my DD so I just kept witht the minimal 427. But the sleeves are suposed to be able to handle out to 4.160 bore. Not sure what that is...434?

More pics...these are the most recent as I continue to battle the valve cover clearance issue. I ordered some spacers but of course every one is back ordered. Who knows when I'll have them. Hopefully next week some time.
