EXCELLENT results. Those scanner screenshots look great, and I tip my hat to ya for the DIY job.

I love the smell of curing fiberglas in the morning...

Would I be able to but my MAF right in front of the TB? Would that have adverse effects on engine performance due to errors in intake readings? Would love to make one of these for myself only 100 bucks. how many hours did you put in on this?

seeing as i'm making one right now that's a MAF version i've been keeping track of my time a little better. not counting the two mold mistakes i made and had to make a third, i think it's going to take about 10-11 hours to make one. i love MAFless but i think it's going to work fine with a MAF.

just so you know there's not a lot of room for a MAF even on '04s. i cut a hump reducing coupler down to as short as i could get it to compact everything in. almost half of the inlet to the MAF is below the top of the radiator and that's on a lower '04 radiator. you also have to either cut the whole plastic top off of the radiator or cut the little clip holder that almost right in front of the inlet as i did. it's the clip for the decorative radiator cover. i'd like to see a LS2 to see how to get an intake in there.

I think that you could cut the front end of the MAF down to get a bit more clearance? just a though. I will be starting mine here after the new year..... Thanks again for all the pictures and information... ohhhh and that other thing.... a sense of hope!

What about using a different (non-modified stock) rubber coupler between the TB and MAF? Seems like you can get rid of a few inches there.

the spacing is a little less than 3/4" and that's for the hump. because it's an '04 you have to transition between 4" on the TB and 3 1/2" on the MAF. because of that you can't put them bumping next to each other plus the hump coupler provides a little give for when the engine torques. i got the MAF version roughed out today (it's my birthday and i took the day off ) and here's what it looks like.

if i had a '05 to fit up on i'd try it but i think all the ones around here are put to sleep. i can tell you that from my testing OTR is the way to go. it out tested my 4" thru the fender (hardcore) design with a 9" cone filter

I think my car would benefit greatly from one. With the DA that I normally run up here it would only help, that's for sure. If I get creative I might try to do it over the winter.

I can temporarily "donate" (for a small favor of course ) an 85mm GM MAF if you want to play around with that (since I noticed you have an 04 and an 80mm BBK). I am pretty sure that both have a 4" OD. I need to mock up an intake for that and my new 80mm BBK soon enough. If I wasnt so busy this time of they year, I would take advantage of the warm weather and get something done to the car! LMK

Looks good! As far as the size difference between the TB and MAF, they make couplers that reduce: http://www.autogrimmig.com/servlet/t...sh-90mm/Detail

Jerry is the man, here is the MAF version. The car isn't tuned for this intake yet and it won't be for at least a couple months since we're getting some extra goodies put on for the next tune but the car definitely sounds different....like its running smoother if that makes any sense.

Fit/finish is great, it took us a couple minutes to figure out how to assemble it and slide it together, but once we figure it out and realized that bellow had some give to it a little muscle was all that was needed. If Jerry ever decides to mass market this, more power to him cause I know a lot of time and effort went into it and it shows.

There was a VERY slight rubbing when we first got it together but adjusting the hood stops out one quarter turn fixed that. We had to separate out the IAT wires and the MAF wires from the rest of the harness but other than that no modifications were needed to be made. In the next few days I'll probably drop the radiator shroud off to get customized to clean up the install and after that is done I'll be 100% happy with the way my engine bay looks.

THANKS!!

BTW I know my engine bay is dirty, its been a while since I cleaned it up.

Throttle body/MAF were powdercoated and ported as well in case anyone asks.

it looks really good in your car Amy. i like the TB and MAF color. as you know i was very nervous making one for someone else. pretty much everything on my car is DIY either thru installs, tuning or parts i can make myself. i get a lot of satisfaction out of it but i know what level of quality makes me happy and not someone else. i hope to crank out a few more. a LS2 would be nice to see so i can see how that would work out. after several forms (i made goofs on a few) i'm starting to get the basics of it down a little quicker but anyone trying this is going to find out it takes some work. i'm relieved that everything worked out for this one

Opening the box it just plain LOOKED like you took time/effort. In my mind this is what I would expect out of a professional product and to know you did it yourself is pretty amazing in my mind.

What is the difference between the 04 and 05 / 06 cars . Would it just be the maf size?

the radiator is a little higher for one. the MAF size isn't a problem (it's 4") as my '04 MAFless intake has a 4" opening instead of 3 1/2" like the 78mm MAF style.

bump!

I was wondering if you needed to borrow my 85mm MAF for any mock-ups. I won't be installing it until I get an intake that can support it. Just let me know.

i'd just need the dimensions of the MAF. the outside diameter, the overall total length and the length that's left after you slide the couplers on.

After reading through this thread a couple times over the past month or so, I am very interested in your setup, svede. By the pics and Amy's input, it looks like you really take the time and have the skill to provide such an awesome product.

Any chance of getting what Amy has? lol

I will see if i cant snag a caliper and get that for you, unless you can work with a tape measure reading.

If you set up a good system to make these and became a forum sponsor they would sell like hotcakes.

Im also interested in the 05/06 maf version if you ever decide to sell

making them en masse would be a problem as the method required to make them out of fiberglass requires the time consuming sculpting of each mold. i'm pretty clever for a public educated guy but i haven't seen any other way to do it without expensive equipment so it's going to be one at a time as i get time.

BTW in my opinion the biggest benefit is almost zero restriction of airflow into the TB and the best way to do that is MAFless. altho i know the MAF version will work well too going MAFless is like running the TB bare open. the downside as i saw in my brief testing before winter is migration of engine bay air into the intake when stopped. if the fans aren't running the radiator is a path for air forward as well as backward. once you move tho that isn't an issue
