Remote start and geek squad?

Has anyone had Geek Squad from Best Buy install a remote start system in their goat? If so, did they run into any issues doing it? I was thinking about having them install the Viper 5101 they have on sale. Any ideas, comments or tips?

Unless the Best Buy in your area is way better than the Best Buy in mine I don't think I would trust them to do a remote start on the GTO. I don't know that I would trust them to do a remote start on anything beyond say a 96 Ranger.

If you wanna pay for it, I've heard Car Toys does a hella good job. But like I said, they are NOT cheap by any means.

Geek Squad.....are you kidding me??

There is a reason that most of them only make about $10/ hr. I would be suprised if they could find the goat in the parking lot if it was the only car there and the alarm was screaming at them the whole time.

Geek Squad will just tell you that they need to reformat your GTO and charge you $100 after keeping it for 3 days.

i have a buddy that works for geek squad up here in IL and he does an amazing job with anything he does... he is helping me with some little toys and hopefully a lot easier way to do a remote start on a GTO... i would talk to the lead installer and talk to them, they may not even touch the GTO a lot of those guys research it and will either quote a crazy amount or wont touch it.

I went back after they installed XM in my Accord. It was a piss poor install and they said there was nothing wrong with it. There were wires all over the place. I'd ask for someone on the boards who has put a system in their goat. Don't go with something cheap because its on sale. I've heard a lot of people not even go with a remote start for our cars because its more in depth than just a simple brain and sensor install. There are issues with the keyfob that I'm sure another forum member could help you with.

Another member just posted this...

Your taking a gamble with any shop you go too. Geek Squad is just like any other stereo installer, you might get someone who knows what there talking about then again you might not. I wouldnt bash them because they are owned by Best Buy. You cant possibly know that evey single Geek Squad installer is going to suck.

Heres my advice, go talk to some installers, see how much they know about GTO's and mention that they will have to modify the key fob. Most installers at Best Buy will know where to draw the line, they dont want to loose their jobs. One thing i know about Best Buy is that if you have a problem with an install they will most likely do whatever it takes to make sure your happy especially if you contact the corporate 888-bestbuy line and file a complaint.

Its ignorant to say that all best buy installers are going to suck. Its impossible to know that. I work for Best Buy but im not an installer. Just my 2 cents.

true statement saying you do not know if all best buy installers are idiots. But, i can say, if an installer has the kind of talent that it takes to do the job correctly every time, he/she is NOT working for best buy. My lowest paid installation tech is @ $18/hr. plus bonus. Best buy around these parts does some descent work, but they still dont pay enough for the good installers to stick around. But, they do make sure the customer is happy in the end.
