Lose the RASP!

Hi, have around $600 to spend on exhaust w/install, as of now have muffler deletes/h-pipe installed. I cannot stand any kind of raspy exhaust, so therefore cannot afford headers as pacesetters do not come catted and would sound horrible with my muffler delete.

Also, I cannot stand the corsa/"exotic", so I'm just looking for the loudest/bada$$/deepest rumble exhaust that won't get my blacked out goat with a 21-yr old driver pulled over everywhere.

Anyone think of anything better than cutouts and spintech in the '04 position? Any input would be appreciated!

Pacesetters/catless mids/ magnaflow....you could get mufflers and the headers/mids for around 600 bucks.

Not raspy....100% deep bass and won't get you into a lot of trouble. Sounds perfect IMO

Magnaflow is way too quiet...I run the catback now.

You want loud exhaust and you don't want any trouble? Good luck.

Listen to mine and tell me you won't get in trouble...been there, done that.

I like the Magnaflow because its civilized on low RPM's then sounds deep and healthy when your running the car.

thanks for the posts, but i'm not a fan of magnaflows..

with my straight pipe setup now i dont have a problem keeping away from the cops, wonder how much louder catted LT's would be with mufflers?

Keep the H-pipe, and get a set of Sweet Thunders and put them in the '04 location...most guys run the 18" ones, though they also have 24" too.

I have Turbo Tubes, which are similar...and mine are 24" in the '04 location. Nice deep sound, and it absolutely roars at WOT.

Better yet, Sweet Thunders are not expensive at all.

I'm with you and in the exact same position. I've got the same exhaust setup and will be going to catless Pacesetters, at which point I think my car will be too loud for a daily driver. Trying to figure out how to keep the same tone I have now, just not get any louder. Spintech seems to be a pretty good option, and I know Flowmasters will take the rasp away if that's what you want. My only problem with flowmasters is they're a little restrictive and they weigh a freaking ton.

agreed. but the stock mufflers themselves would more than any aftermarket, I believe? I don't really think it'd be a noticable difference..

Hmm.. wonder if I could put something like that (maybe power sticks or some 3" chambered) in place of the cats on the midpipe, and then add sweet thunders/spintech in the 04 position?

I havent heard mine from the outside so Im not sure how "loud" it really gets. But Ive got a X pipe and moroso spiral flows in front of the axle. It might be more on the exotic side, which you're not looking for, it sounds more like a howl with a hint of cackle in some areas. I wonder though if your H pipe would give it more of what you're looking for.

I guess different strokes for different folks but flowsmurfers sound like ass and so do sweet thunders IMO. With pacesetters and catless mids my magnaflow exhaust is loud enough to hear and be noticed, but quiet enough to not get in trouble, its the best of both worlds and sounds much better than almost anything I've heard on a GTO so far.

Yeah 04 goats are really hard to get a good sound out of when really 05-06 you cant go wrong with much besides those that are to quiet IMO!!! For your car I would honestly go with borla or bassani and catted or cattless all to your pref. For an 04 I would go with Loudmouth1 and catted headers!

04 and 05-06 all sound pretty damn similiar motorwise..I don't get what you're trying to say on that one.....The SLP LM1 is way too much IMO after you have headers on it.

Actually they have very different tones because of the routes of the cat-backs and stock exaust for that matter. The only 04's I have heard that sound like an 05-06 is the ones with split rear 05-06 bumpers with 05-06 cat-backs But we all have our opinions and mine is that I have heard 1 04 that I really liked the sound on and that one had Loudmouth and Lt's. Just my .02.

You can weld a pair of cats into Pacesetter mids and it should help a ton with the Rasp.

^^probably right.. will try to get the painted pacesetters, two spare cats and do the weld.. too bad i will likely not find anyone to do the weld in my area so well see how that goes

example 1) I called some shops about installing headers and came to show them just the headers when i had them, not even the mids. everyone freaked out and said it was extremely illegal, they'd get shut down, killed and raped for simply doing the install. it was pretty ridiculous.

example 2) cost me $100 to just get my stolenfox h-pipe installed because no one else would dare lay a finger on the resonator. again, f***ing ridiculous since the h-pipe itself cost only $150.

-my only concern with the weld-in-cats was that it wouldnt make a difference in sound unless the mids came catted originally. read that some on here noticed no difference in sound, while others did; i'm going to assume that some added gutted vs. real cats on their mids, making for a difference in opinion

lol. They're not very different. LS1 GTO stock for stock sounds pretty damn similiar to an LS2 GTO, just comes out one side of the bumper rather than two. The pipe routing doesn't really change the sound THAT much, and the bigger 05-06 mufflers actually make them a tad quieter.....

IMO the split exit of the 05/06 does in fact sound different then the single sided exit of the 04 regaurdless of mufflers brand.

as we all know 04's are inferior to ls2's, so lets end that.

anyway, heard this video
2005+GTO+-+Start%2fIdle%2fRev+(current+set-up)%3a+Spinte

thanks to how tinny that setup sounds even with catted kooks, ive decided to just try catless first, and see where that takes me.

LS2 sounds different cause they have a higher compression ratio.

Don't let the fact that Pacestters don't come with cats hold you back from buying them. I found some high flow cats for $42 each i think it was.

You have to get a chambered muffler to get rid of the rasp.

Go with either Spintech (louder) or Flowmaster (deeper).

Mine actually got a bit raspier when I put the catless mids on... It is contrary to and defies all the variations that I've heard when it comes to cats vs catless, but that's how it is for the GTO.
