Under Hood Dress-up Thread

Besides modding the motor for power and the exterior for looks, I have been on a quest to dress-up the ol engine bay.

So, to copy a few other threads that list popular items, here is a listing I have put together of things I have found to add some "bling" and good looks under your hood. I tried to use Vendors, when known. Some items can be had from multiple sources.

Feel free to add your own suggestions and links to this thread.

*updated 3 Jul 07

These are generally appearance items and obviously offer little (mostly none) power gains. Though there are chrome mod items (maggie, ProCharger, numerous CAIs, etc.), they are likely to fall in a different category. This thread is mainly intended for bling. Please keep the comments related to the thread.

Jim,

Where you guys getting the carbon material? Is it pre-preg or wet lay up?

Thanks,
Ross

Sources vary for 3k 2x2 twill.
Hand laid and bags.
No need for pre-preg.

Going to be doing a wet lay up for the rear shelf (rebuilt to hold a set of 10's) over the next few weeks.

With access to a computer timed oven, I was hoping to do a pre-preg to save the mess. Seem Boeing and AeroBus are buying the pre-preg up like it is the lastest fad in aerospace

The dry stuff is about $15 a yard (x42") retail, here.

I validated the MBA MAF ends and the idler pulley today. They fit okay, though the pulley was a bit larger than stock. Otherwise install was pretty straight forward and easy.

Nice. Is your stock radiator cover coated with CF, or is that an aftermarket? How about some details on it?

You could use a universal silicone hose kit to replace all your vacuum and heater hose with colored silicone hose. Reduce temps, lasts forever, and looks better.

My underhood dress up consists of a Procharger and Headers. No need for it to look all pretty with extra non-performance mods to me.

But I must admit Tonyaf has one kick ass engine bay!

That looks pretty nice but it also looks like you don't have the radiator cover on right.

The two tabs on the front side are supposed to go inside the cutouts in the frame. Unless you did that on purpose.

Did you just use spray paint on the engine bay items? How is it holding up?

Hand Laid Carbon in Vinylester resin and MG Gelcoat. It is a direct bolt on. The covers are made the same way.

No, I used Sikkens base/clear, same stuff we use on the outside of the car. Seems to be holding up just fine after about 7 months.

MBA has a long history of high quality parts in the F-body/Impala crowds. however, when I went to their site to look for more info for you, it appears they've shut down, at least for the moment: http://www.mbaproducts.com/

Dan, The largest positive area change to your GTO will come from the CAR Motorsports GTO Custom Embroidered Underhood Insulator. It will beautify 4 x 4 feet of your GTO for an amazing price. Best of all the insulator will continue to look beautiful for years to come. This Custom Product is the largest area bang for the buck; available in both 5.7 and 6.0 Litre design. Link provided below. Enjoy.
