Cool 7 sec V6 "street car" TSO legal

7.97@175 soft 1.34 60ft nearly 3500lbs M/T dr's, no n2o
single T4 flanged PT 88. First time out with new motor.
Should pull some mid 1.2x 60fts once they get it nailed down.

Not as fast as an LSX but not bad for a V6 with a lil 88.

Unreal. Is that a stage 2 motor..LOL...It's been awhile since I hung with the GN crowd but I remember everyone wanted a stage block..I believe 276 cubes. Job Spetter used to do the tuning on a few of the guys cars we rolled with. Nothing like this beast. That wheelie is just sick!! Isn't this pass right up there with the fastest street legal Vipers and Supras?

Exclamation I Wish.

Just to make things clear guys, NOT my car. Belongs to Tony Gnomes. Mine should be in the 8.50-8.60 range but that is LONG way from 7.90's.

It is a Oncenter S2 proably 276ci.

Still don't know how they went that fast at that weight with a T4 88. Must have one hell of an exh wheel on that thing.

Thumbs up Oh Yeah, Congrats Tony!!!

Tony's combo is identical to my best friend Dave Fiscus's combo.
Aluminum TA Performance block with Stage II heads, GT4788 turbo using the largest T4 turbine housing that's legally allowed in TSO. Both cars run drag radials and factory style suspension. At this race in Norwalk, both Dave and Tony were shooting to run the first ever side by side 7 second pass, but Dave had tranny problems.

Tony had run a PB of 8.12 in testing at the end of last season and Dave had run a PB of 8.17 in testing. Both in legal TSO trim (Turbo Street Outlaw in Buick GS Nationals rules) Tony is the first ever, to run a 7 second pass in a full weight Buick with factory style suspension. And to be a legitimate street car on drag radials is just icing on the cake. Dave had a 1.27 60ft time on his previous run, before he had tranny issues. They are both making roughly the same power. Both cars have to weigh 3450# as well. TSO class is for 3450# Turbo Buicks that can run anywhere from 9.00 - whatever, as long as they are legal to the rules and NHRA rules. Typically 6-12 cars compete at 4-6 races per year in this class. It is the Ultimate Turbo Buick class in the Nation.

Very impressive for a little 276 CI V6 single turbo on Mickey Thompson drag radials. In the past, cars that have run 7's in the 1/4 mile, were full chassis cars that weighed 2600-2800# and either ran a huge single turbo or twin turbos. The GT4788 Garrett turbo loves to sing along at 40psi and will support roughly 1450 fwhp at those boost levels. The secret is keeping things together at that level and the traction control technology with the XFI. That and having Cal Hartline as your tuner doesn't hurt either. Tony has been working on this combo with Dave and Cal for the last 5 years and Dave on his since 1993. The love of Turbo Buicks is truly a disease. I have it myself.
Here's the post on the Buick board for those of you who are interested in more info.

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/tur...5-175-a-2.html

Great post NEARING.

You are right about that. Many times I've wanted to dump all my Buick stuff but I just can't do it.

Sad to hear he took off the A/C. 8.40's with a/c was COOL. LOL

Didn't know they were running the T/A block. Good to see people making them work after the teething problems.

Are they running Chapman S2 heads? I've got Kibblers top end(minus cam, Dan wanted that back) which are Chapman.

Wonder what that car would run with slicks, bars and a pro mod 91?

Thumbs up

Here's another view of Tony's pass that Sam just posted up.

YouTube Video
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

I know Dave is still running his Indy heads from Goodyears car of yore. He has two sets and has already had to fix one of them. Old school Indy power on the heads. I believe Tony started with a fresh set as well.

Remember, Tony dabled with a 91 a couple of years ago, back before we had traction control. Dave has told me that the drag radials actually make the car more stable on the big end and with the boost controller, slicks are only needed at questionable tracks. I'd say mid 1.20's is frickin 7.70 territory for both of them.
That's getting it done for sure.

I do remember he had a 91. I have an XFI but don't have the T/C is that a seperate module (plug and play) or something you have to send back to FAST for them to upgrade your box?

7.7X is crazy for a 3450lb street car. It was only a few years ago TSO cars had been stuck in the 8.5x range for years. In about 12 months they have droped 1/2 a sec and picked up 10mph.
