Grand Canyon trip

Guys.. need your help.

Will be travelling from LA ---> Las Vegas ---> Grand Canyon ----> LA.

Anyone have any suggestion as regards where to stay in Grand Canyon? (about one day)

Travelling with two other couples so.. would like something on the cheaper side.

any suggestions... the whole grand canyon seems so freakin big that I am kinda confused as to where exactly to go from Vegas and where to stay.. so any insights will be helpful.

Oh yeah travelling around the next long weekend..Sept 7th or so.

anyone suggest anything.. pls.

My only suggestion is to stay in Flagstaff. I have no idea exactly where it's been years since I've been there...

MMMMM...if you weren't traveling with other couples I would insist you hit up Flagstaff for the new crop of young and impressionable college girls...(more fun than the Grand Canyon @ night). one of which is my G/F's sis ;-) hehe.

Grand Canyon National Park has a motel about 80 or 100 ft from the south rim. I'd suggest staying there so you can relax & enjoy the view, without having to worry about traveling somwhere for the night. You can reserve a room on line, & cost a couple of years ago was around a hundred bucks a night.

Spending the night right at the canyon was one of those priceless moments for me. Sitting with my feet dangling over the edge, with a glass of wine watching the sunset after the crowds had dissipated was wonderful, even with wifie fussing at me to be careful (she relaxed after awhile). Then sitting at the same spot the next morning with coffee watching the sunrise was even better. Bring your bottle of wine with you, & don't bring too much if you're going to dangle your feet over the edge.

From there I did a loop counterclockwise around the canyon, & spent the next night at a motel in a small town (Kenab or Kanab) just across the border in Utah, then headed back to Vegas. Got scenery overload! If you drive through the Ponderosa pine forests on the north side, stop & smell the bark of a tree that's getting some sun. It smells like butterscotch.
