Nicest car you have seen in a cash for clunkers lot

I saw a first gen Escalade.....but the one that hurt to see was a late 80's IROC in the same lot.

199? SS454 pickup. No rust, not smashed or shredded inside. Out of maybe 40 cars, 12! little Jimmy/Blazers, 6 Exploders, a couple of Grand Cherokees, and some other VERY useable pickups. How bad off was that Escalade ?

That is their job. All the cars that have been turned in for the cash for clunkers have to have that shit put in them. I'm assuming it's so they can't resell it.

I would have thought a C4 would be worth more than $4500. I could use that TPI setup.

I know that it is their job, but why would anyone really laugh at a good car getting destroyed like that?

Don't the clunkers have to be rated less than 18 MPG ? That Vette shoulda done better. If any GTO's are turned in, the Posse forms to the left...

"Good Car" is subjective. C4's were never anything to write home about - if it had been some riced out import in that video - you'd sing a different tune.

Destroying perfectly good cars is wasteful and stupid, typical of politicians.

I can't fathom why these cars are not permitted to be resold. It would further HELP the economy to have a glut of $3500 - $4500 cars on the market.

Especially mid-'90s Chebbies for pulling around landscaping equipment.

Yes, it is a stupid program. Especially when cars today run so clean (any newer car in LA actually emits cleaner air than what it breathes in - fact), we can afford to have a few older models running around here and there. Especially when you consider that passenger automobiles in general account for a much smaller % of CO2 worldwide than any "green" politicians/nutswingers care to admit.

I think programs like this would be great for LA, New York, etc where the smog is literally visible in the air - but leave it up to the individual state/city to handle this.

Because the whole justification for this pogram is to get these vile, inefficient, polluting dinosaus off the road before they kill even more of our earth.

That Maserati was a colossal POS. Beautiful and had many luxuries especially in its day, but a POS none the less.

One wonders if the bureaucracy has considered the impact of a half-million crushed cars being introduced to the nation's salvage yards.

Have they ever considered the impact on anything? "Nah...smurf it....just roll wit it..we'll figure this bitch out later."

Whats that saying? Roughly measure once, cut and mess up, then buy a new piece of wood and hire 14 contractors to make sure everybody knows you're trying to cut correctly this time...er...something like that.

Then cut when they're looking away, mess up again, blame the contractors. Hire the cheapest contractor but pay him double of what the job is worth. Then he does it, but does a mediocre job, you accept it anyway, and you claim victory that you did something. Bureaucracy in action.

How could a dealer be that stupid though? If they could double their money they would do it in a resell.....they wouldn't crush it. Hell if they could make $1000 quick bucks on it they would do it. Had to of had major issues that would cost too much to repair versus the value. Like obviously a missing t-top which would be at least $1,000 by itself.

Just remember folks...this is your tax dollars going to cars that dealers don't even want. Doesn't that make you feel warm and fuzzy inside?

I believe it was an 80s vintage BiTurbo. Had less than 20,000 miles and the interior was immaculate.

Problem was it didn't run, and it was a butt-ass ugly car even in perfect condition.
