I can definitely understand why these cars in a class of their own. Exhaust note was very nice and the lack of wind noise in the cabin at whatever speeds was amazing. Suspension hugged the road like something pedders wished they could replicate and the transmission shift was unreal. The C63 didn't pull as hard as I would of thought but then again it probably isn't a low 11 second car but also could have just been from how refined it was. The sides of the seats in the C series was a tad restrictive but they are made to hold you in. My only beef with the C series was that for the money you would think the dash would have been double stitched leather like you find in the CTS-V. Other than that...phenomenal.
The E series was just retarded. From the dual sunroof to the amazing interior, it was on hell of a car. The 90k base pricetag for a new one is definitely more than what I would want to ever pay for a car but IMO, this car was top notch and quite FAST.
The E63 AMG was preowned but the dude put only 800 miles on it! Brought it back because it said it was "too much" car for him..WTF...He was older though.
We took a look at the S5 Audi but they had only one on the showroom floor. Was very nice too but had white seats. I wasn't a big fan of that.
They also had the TT version of the cayenne in the showroom. Just a nice 140k price tag. However I was talking to the guy at the porche section of the dealership and he is going out to arizona to test out the new porches at the skip barber school of racing. I guess they are making a new car called the "panamera" which is a 4 seat version of the 911. Looked pretty badass...

LoL ... tho, I wouldn't exactly buy the story on the E63 ... unless the owner was actually there telling you this. The one gripe I have about the German cars aside from never being able to really find a comfortable driving position in them is their gas pedals. Iono ... must just be me, but having driven a few of them, including the new M3 .... seemed like getting on the gas isn't a smooth transaction ... it's ... press down ... why isn't it going down? ... little harder? ... no, I think it's jammed ... maybe if I ... gah, shit, too much gas! Maybe it's to prevent yuppie douchebag hypermilers from buying their cars? If so, I applaud them =P
If your lookin for a Benz, check out their CPO program. Its so good Car and Driver just did a write up on it stating it was the best way to buy a high buck benz.

Towards the end of the mag, with the black E63?
They do that for every car manufacture. The Corvette was the previous issue.

I dunno. The sales guy was really cool. He did it as a hobby as he was a retired farmer whose kids were already out of the house and in college. He never pushed a car on us and he really knew his stuff and wasn't at all overbearing.
I mean the car had 800 miles on it, marked pre-owned and was like in the 70's. It still had the window sticker that the guy folded up in the glovebox for 94k. No dealership is going to sell a 2009 E63 AMG for 70 something k with only 800 miles on it...

Is the '09 the old or new bodystyle? I read an article on the newly redesigned ones (which they lauded) but one thing I found kind of surprising was that they're lowering the base price a bit.

Dang ... tho I can't believe any human being would say "this is far too much car for me" and return it. Heck, if that were the case, you wouldn't see old people in anything but Kia Rio's ... but alas, you see them in near 100k cars doing 20MPH under the speed limit and taking a full minute to creep into turn lanes ... only to get back out of said turn lane, all without signaling.

Old. Thing about the new body style for me is that bang-on ... it looks ugly to me. Straight on from the front, rear or side ... meh. Move to the side a bit and get a side profile, suddenly it becomes a work of art ...
Don't forget the new Audi S4. It is powered by a TVS Eaton. Chip/pulley swap and you are looking at a significant power gain.
I don't know jack about audi. We were looking at the S5. My wife knows 1000x more about these cars than I do. My wife doesn't really care about big horsepower. She just likes a great mix of luxury and hp.
Agreed. And for the price, you could pick up two CPO E55's for the amount you could pick up your E63. I got to beat on both vehicles at Autobahn Country Club at a Mercedes event, among a few of the other AMG cars. I thought the E63 had a better top end, but felt the E55 to be much more enjoyable in the low and mid range (really throws you back in you seat). If I recall, there were reports of the 469hp of the E55 being underrated and that it was closer to 500hp.
Audi S4 is placed between the BMW M3 which is priced in the $60K range and the 335i which comes in around $40K.
S4 has what most would agree is the most advanced adaptive AWD system and clutchless 7 speed (i.e. an auto but one most say is better than the manual on this car). Power comes in at 333HP and 320TQ and 0-60 in at 4.9/8.
It is mostly an understated autobahn missile with an exceptional interior. Worth a look from what most people say.
CONS: Sort of like a GTO in the styling department, you like it or hate it. Very silent exhaust note that doesn't give you an appreciation for the power.
The TVS unit on this car supposedly is pushing a constant 21psi and Audi added some sort of boost bypass device that is constantly limiting the 21psi. Rumor is that a chip will unlock all 21psi pushing power north of 400...but car is very new right now and no one really knows.
Fawk that. Get a brand new CTS-V for ~$60K. It will beat up on any BMW/Merc/Audi and save you $30k in cash. WIN!!!!!
There are plenty of used ones out there for ~$50k.
I don't think it can get any better for a 4 door luxury sports sedan.
The guy who traded in the E63 with 800 miles probably sold it back to Merc and went to the Cadillac dealer next door for a CTS-V. Still saved himself $20k after the depreciation hit and got a faster car with a better warranty.
With just a tune, these cars are gaining 40-50rwhp (~475 total).

I agree but my wife wants to keep her options open. My buddy has an 09 CTS-V that he purchased a few months ago. Amazing car. I actually told the sales guy at the mercedes dealership to check one out. He was a car guy. I wasn't trying to offend him but I told him that for the 55k that the C AMG went for, it should have double leather stitched on the dash. The C AMG just had a black dash ala the G8. Outside of that and the fact that the seats were really constricting, I could find no fault with the C series AMG at all....
A CTS-V does not come in at 60K. Add any options at all and it is immediately north of $63K.
w/o a single option it starts at $62K and that doesn't include TTL or dealer fee's.
And how many dealerships sell them for MSRP?
I'm not hating...I love the car.

2009 Automatic w/ ultra sunroof/nav MSRP: $65,795 SALE PRICE: $59,500
Looks like with the Recaros and Nav, you are looking around $63,000 before negotiations. I doubt $60k would hard to get to, considering that one dealer already knocked off $5k.
