I just got this from Netflix and wow is it an awesome car movie. It's kind of like Easy Rider meets American Graffiti, but with the bizarre cast of James Taylor, Dennis Wilson, and Warren Oates. It's not really a car chase or action film, but more of a period piece on the 60's and 70's muscle car culture. Check it out, although the trailer is pretty crappy:
My nuts have always swung...and without any proclivity to the brand of car I drive
'05 Torrid Red M6 As of July 26, GMM shifter, Kooks LT headers, LPE intake, custom tune, chromed factory 17's.
2006 Mustang GT:Retro style and Terminator power: forged 5.0 3V - old best of 10.67 @126.51 with Si trim and 548 whp. Now a JT-trim, and 628whp.

I've seen much better films overall and the storyline is completely smurfed unless you're drunk or high IMO like most of the people making it were. Also the ending was just nuts, the film burns....okay?
Although it has one of the best quotes ever "make it three large mothersmurfer and we'll have ourselves an automobile race!"
Great movie IMHO. It has the early 70s Easy Rider/Vanishing Point looking for the "real America" kind of vibe, but the movie grows on you the more you watch it.

It doesn't beat LeMans or Grand Prix. There is one scene in Grand Prix where all of the great drivers of the 60's were at a party. Half of the room would be gone within just a few years.

Great quote-awful movie. I saw it in the theatre when it was released, own a copy and have watched it numerous times with fellow car nuts. Other than the very few car cruise/racing scenes, it is nearly unwatchable.

I don't consider those car movies.

Sadly, true. Few today realize just how deadly the sport was years ago.
The greatest ever I'de have to give to American Graffiti, it had a good storyline, awsome cars and a good race. Who can beat the cast? The cars? Story? Great movie. A close second for me is Smokey and the Bandit,it was funny as hell and who doesnt love a Basset hound?

Almost, being a bit of an art film geek I'd say they are car movies but not car FILMS! That's always a fun discussion to have. These are car films that everyone here seems to enjoy and for good reasons too. Werner Herzog makes films but George Lucas makes movies. By the same logic I would call Two Lane Blacktop a film and Days of Thunder a movie. Not that any us would be caught dead being a film "purist" hehehe

The black 55 that Harrison Ford rolled in American Graffiti was one of the Two Lane Blacktop cars.

It is an awesome movie for the cars, nostalgia, and route 66 history. I would love to road trip like that back then racing for money to survive. Imagine having a 454 ls6 block in a 55 chevy in 1971, would be the same as us having a ls9 cruising around. I love this movie.
My vote goes to the original gone in 60 seconds. 2 lane blacktop is a real P.O.S.---the only good things are The Judge (obviously) the Girl and the Dragstrip scenes.

No, it would be miserable driving a stripped, tunnel rammed, stiff geared car like the '55 anywhere but a few blocks or a quarter mile at a time. Been there-done that.
I hate the original gone in 60 seconds too.......that was a horrible movie.....
Yeah he wrecks a bunch and tears up a mustang, but still. I had that movie custom ordered cause it was supposed to be so good and I sold it directly after watching it.
