K so i have had my permit for about 1 1/2 months... going to get my test this saturday. But i don't have a bike i have been riding my sister 2008 gs500f for about 2-3 months. I would say i am pretty good at it, but im no pro! I have been riding dirt bikes for years (pretty much the same concept).. What would be a good bike for me to start with? Here are my choices..
1) CBR 600 f4i (could someone tell me what on is better f4i or RR)
2) Yamaha r6
3) Kawasaki zx-6r
i know these can be powerful bikes but i have enough common sense to get to learn the bike before i try anything stupid on them. I have ridden a gxsr-750, gsxr-600, and my sister bike... flame on

Umm... what?
I'm more of a cruiser fan than a sport bike fan, but one of the guys here at work had an R6. He said it was a really nice bike, but he sold it because there's nowhere around here to safely/legally explore the bike's capabilities. I didn't get a chance to ride it, but it sure does look like a fun bike.
Only thing about it though is that every time I take my V Star in for service, it seems like there are 2-3 R6's in the shop for repairs. Dunno if it's because they're so popular that there's more in for service at any given time, or if they're trouble-prone. Might want to browse around some Yamaha forums and see what owners are saying about them.

I would say, now that you have decided that you want a 600
you should go sit on te bikes and see which one "feels" better.
The seat could be wider on some and lower on other, helping or restraining your feet to be down on both sides.
To each his own, but as much as I was a fan of the R6, I sat on hundreds at dealer, and admired it, but the day I sat on a CBR 600RR, I felt the bike was designed with my frame in mind.
Just happened to have a seat not to wide and there by helping my feet to be comfortable.
The Hondas tend to be the most expensive, followed by the yamaha and then the Gixxers. IMHO.
thats all I can contribute for now.

And no, it's perfectly acceptable to make loud engine noises while driving through echoey places. Anyone who takes offense to it is both a dullard and a jerk.
KAWI ZX6R with the 636!!!! I loved mine, and it was perfect with more power then everyone else's 600....plus it was easy to toss being in the middle of the weight of the lightweight bikes. Other than that GSXR 600.....most people on this board will tell you not to buy a 600 sportbike because its "too much" your right hand is what controls you....any 600 will be plenty enough for a while and plenty enough to grow on.
Don't buy some super lame bike to learn on, you'll just regret it later on....buy a nice used 600 and have fun.
