To all your motorcyclists ...

Really? Really?!?!?! No, not why you ride. I completely understand why you do it. My tiff with your folks is this ... in the past week, we've gotten three different riders come in, take the nozzle themselves (full serve only [I don't care if riders take the nozzle for themselves]) and decide to put the nozzle on the ground and shake out the nozzle, leaving a nice puddle of gasoline on the ground.

Really? smurfing really? First time this happened I grabbed a 1" wrench without even thinking and bolted out and started screaming at the guy. I haven't been that pissed in a while ... my vision actually started getting blurry. Apparently, the sorry punk ass excuse is, "I don't want to get any on my gas tank."

What? Are you that much of an uncoordinated, asinine individual that you can't fill up without spilling? I fill up the Crafstman POS 5000 lawnmower every week without spilling a drop ... and that's not even trying. It's disgusting that you think such actions are deemed acceptable on any level. Not to mention, intentionally spilling gas like that will receive a pretty hefty fine from the [insert gov't agency name that eludes me ATM] ... and guess who will have to pay such fine if someone decides to report it.

Seriously thinking of barring any motorcyclists from getting gas ... tho, in the past two summers, I've never seen this. Only this past week. All of them were cruisers, not sport bikers. Hell, ask for something to shake it out into. We have containers that we can fill up and then dump it in our waste tank. Don't smurfing pour it on the ground.

Wait, I'm confused.

They took the nozzle out of the pump and shook the gas out of it BEFORE they started pumping....or after they were finished pumping?

If it was before I can't imagine there being more than a drop or two in there. Surely not enough to freak out and start worrying that someones going to call the EPA about a "massive fuel spill."

Maybe your pumps work differently than any gas pump I've ever seen in any country on Earth, but it's always AFTER you finish pumping the gas and are returning the nozzle to the pump that you end up dribbling it on the tank. Or you're not paying attention while you fill it so it comes geysering out of the fill hole and all over your tank and legs before the automatic shutoff catches it. But there's still nothing to be gained by shaking the last couple of drops out of the nozzle BEFORE you pump it.

There's no such thing as "Full Service" pumps around here anymore, but in the old days the guys at the full service stations used to let anyone on a bike pump their own gas so if you spilled it you'd just be pissed at yourself and you wouldn't kick the attendant's ass for smurfing up the paint on your tank. I used to let them fill it, but I always stuck my hand out and held it under the nozzle while they were taking it out of the tank, just to make sure I caught any drips.

Exactly. Wait, what? No, if you use a gas pump like a normal person, there may be a drop or two. Take that same nozzle, put it on the ground (end of the nozzle pointing down) and shake it. You'd be surprised at how much comes out. More than likely, nobody would call the EPA or [other gov't agency that covers gas station regulations] ... but then you'd be surprised at how nut jobs there are who have nothing better to do with their time.

It's not our nozzles either. Told my dad about this and he says he's had the same problem at his Getty along with a number of other gas station owners he's talked to. Guy that works at a BP station told us the same thing, and they use completely different nozzles than us. I was actually surprised at how much actually came out ... think the asshat may have even squeezed it a little to get every last bit out.

I guess I didn't know that about pump nozzles because I've never had any reason to take the thing off the pump and beat it on the ground trying to get gas to come out of it. Call me crazy, but the situation has never come up in the millions of times I've put gas in things. Opportunity without motive I guess.

I still don't understand why the guy was worried about the gas that was in the nozzle BEFORE he pumped it ending up on his tank when it's the gas left in the nozzle AFTER he finished that he should have been worried about. But if I was in charge of a gas station and saw some idiot pouring fuel on the ground I probably would have beat him with a wrench as well, or at least thrown a socket at his head or something.

Thats weird.

Whats wrong with twisting the pump handle at an angle until it is over the hole in the tank then twisting it down and in?

I do that all the time when taking the pump handle out of the Goat. Just a simple pull and twist so it doesnt drip on the quarter panel. Common sense FTW.

P.S. Two Velcro strips, one on gas cap, one on inside of fuel door keeping the cap OFF the quarter panel and outta the way of fueling FTW as well.

LOL ... trust me, I had to really contain myself. Had to go in the back office to cool off. People must have thought I was crazy pacing around with a death grip on a 1" wrench. Like I said, I've never seen such a thing either. Freaking turn the nozzle upwards, line it up with the fill hole and then turn it down ... zero spill even filling up at a low point (like when filling up the lawnmower). I didn't mind one bit when motorcyclists came in wanting to pump it themselves for the reasons you stated ... this was a first. Weather is getting cooler so I doubt there will be many motorcyclists on the road anymore ...

Might I suggest using a lit match to burn off the excess gas in the nozzle?!?!

I used to twist my gas nozzles up and then point them down before pre-paying just to get every drop left in the hose in my motorcycle.....then I'd let the premium stop before full dribble it out in my tank and then twist it up and into the retainer to make sure it didn't hit my tank on the way out..

If there was free gas in that pump and I knew I wasn't going to be canyon running I'd use every drop left by the last guy, lol.

I don't think I've ever 'spilled' on my bike - its pretty damn easy to not get it on the tank.

Now, I have not paid 100% attention and the auto-shut off didn't kick in... had maybe 2-3 oz. of gas spill out over the tank. I figure from that point, who cares about a drop or two? I did go home and wash it off right after though - but damn... kick em in the face.

I ride and my pet peeve is how many douche nozzles ride one handed now, aka Jesse James. I don't know why it bothers me so much but dayum it does. Most people that ride now-a-days look and act like they will be the next participant on the Tool Academy.

so wait, they don't want a drip of gas on their tank but they'll settle for dirt on the nozzel before they put it in their tank???? Seems kinda silly. Twist up, align with hole, insert, and pump. Wait, we're talking about gas stations....

Maybe if gas stations actually had napkins in the napkin holders then people wouldn't have to do things like this. I would never dump a bunch of fuel on the ground, but I sure as hell don't want it on my paint either. Apparently I'm capable of both though.

hahahaha REALLY? The cap fits right beside the fill hole and off of the quarter panel without any of your fancy-schmancy futuristic Velcro.

Some people are just that stupid. You should not let it get to you. I hate it when idiots pee on my building on video.

This idiot for example.

His wife works at the salon that is right around the corner in this picture. They have a bathroom. He pissed on my building underneath the sign that says .

I recommend some stress relief before you stroke out.
