So I'm driving th other night... okay it was 2 am - and I see the deer, and I'm thinking..."I don't want to hit that - it'll eff up my car!":
So instead, I slam on the breaks, swerve, and ditch the car and hit a tree. .
After a few days and several broken bones, the isurance douchebag calls to tell me it's totaled. $21,000.00 damage, car valued at $15,895. wtf.
My baby. My car. The second-fastest thing that turns me on....

Oh no. Sorry to hear that. I fear the same thing about deer running out in front of me so I know where this is coming from.

I feel your pain. i had a deer land on my hood at 60 mph when i had a little less than 3k miles on it. Look at the bright side car shopping is always a blast.

I've always found it's better to hit any animal than to try and miss. Only bad can come from trying to swerve. My one exception to the rule though came when I almost hit an elk on I-75 near Gaylord at about 5 in the morning. THAT time I swerved! Now you can buy my car as I think I'm gonna sell her soon.
Sucks about the accident. For future reference hit the animal as it goes under comprehensive and does not affect insurance rates. Hiting a tree or another object falls under collison and that will raise your premiums!

Man oh man... turns out there's deer hair in the scoops.... yaay! I hit that little effer! Ha. (Although he was at lkeast a 12 point). Heres some pics of my "totaled" goat - btw... I AM NOT getting a new one. I love this one so much. I'm buying it back from salvage, and I'll either fix it or part it.
after reading all those threads about hitting a dear, i realize it is better to just slam on the gas pedal and just bump it off the bumper and the hood (those who like physics - calculate how fast we should go to do that), instead of going sideways and hitting a tree, which is much worse than this animal.
The damage doesn't seem all that bad. It's those fricken parts that are going to cost and to have someone do the work. Sorry to hear and see about your bad news and good luck on fixing the Goat. And by the way, great choice on saving the Goat.

Yeah, insurance guy actually turned out to be decent. Even came back to get a look at the deer hair and called it a comp claim! Woo Hoo!!! No deductable and a clean driving record!!!! Yaaaay!
Seen far too many posts on here about swerving to miss a deer and ending up MUCH worse than just hitting the deer. Agree 100% with the post above, hit the $*&^#@*! Well try to stop, but do not swerve!

Just remember deer are still softer than 90+% of what else is on/around the road. FYI we're coming up on the rut so there will be horny deer running rampant , keep an eye out guys.

Glad you healing up, but take the ins. payout and buy a clean titled GTO. Your repaired car won't be worth what you put into it. Not being harsh but when it comes time to sell/trade you'll regret it.

Don't know how I missed this post 3 months ago, but I will say it's better to just clock the deer than try to avoid it. Deer body is always softer than a tree or rock. Interestingly, I had a deer jump OVER the hood of my old firebird. All he left was a nice ($500) dent.

I appreciate the advice... and wish I had a dollar... but this is my baby. I won't sell her, ever. Came close to buying an 05 the other day to add to the collection but didn't. Anyway, I know some people who know some people, and it's gonna cost me about 6-10 grand to fix her. Salvage title or not she's mine and I'm keeping her. I just miss the HELL outta her!
