Cool Atco Raceway October 31 New Gen GTO Shootout & Pontiac Nationals & Test n Tune

Okay I know this has been a bit confusing pretty much from the beginning of the year, But here it is.

After all the bad weather I took it upon myself to see if Atco could do anything for us on such short notice. I wish I can shell out $$$ personally for payouts/awards to the winners as I have a few times in the past but this year has been crap for me as some of you already know.

This won't be like last years event with almost a 60 GTO turnout it will be on a smaller scale, but for those who like to Race and those who like to show there car there is a little bit for everyone.

The difference is this year Atco will provide Trophies for us racers and the show is thru Atco & will be Judged by them if any wants to just show there car.

Please Lets try to get a nice turnout(I'm hoping for at least 20-30 of us) I hope to see many of you October 31st !

Atco Raceway Will provide 2004-2006 GTO Owners with our own:
New Gen GTO Race... 2 lanes to run Elimination & Time runs along with some Trophies Awarded to the Winners/ru.

* 2004-2006 GTO Owners Only*

Why not have each driver kick in 10 bucks on top of the entry, some from gone hold the coin and the winner and ru take the money....

Figuring 20 car field the payout could be 125.00 to win and 75 for ru
I would kick in 10 bucks for sure

If uget more than 20 in the race the moola gets better

If all goes well I will be at Cartek tomorrow night getting the exhaust back on and a few things changed around and I hope to be ready for Saturday morning. If I'm going I will be driving down with the drag radails on or changing from streets to them at the track if I can fit everything in the car.

I guess I will have to pull the front passenger seat to make for room. I also will have to see how I feel.

I hope to see everyone there for Saturday's races. I will be doing the Pontiac race for $500 and also the New gen race.

Bruce

Had major spinal surgeries at C5/C6 15 & 13 years ago respectively. Thats why you can see a 12 inch car on the back of my neck. They basically split my spinal column and moved it back a few millimeters to allow space for my spinal cord that was being crushed by a bone spur in the spinal column from the first surgery.

The original cause was a result of body surfing right after a hurricane passed the shore about 16 years ago - a wave caught me and planted me head first into the sand. Actually knocked me out for a bit. The impact herniated the disk at C5/C6.

Every once and a while the root nerve coming of the spinal cord will inflame - normally it is just a pain in the butt and goes away in a day or so. I was sore Sunday - but didn't think anything of it, since it happens so often.

On tuesday I was working on the computer at work - looking down at a spreadsheet then back up at the computer - then all of a sudden I saw stars.

Funny thing is little things cause it to flare up. I played Ice Hockey up and until 3 years ago - never an issue. Yet if I picked up a garbage bag the wrong way - kazaam.

This time something either the scar tissue really irratated it or a new bone spur has grown and caught the nerve. Should know in a day or so what the cause was. But the nerve then went nuts and set off the other nerves in my upper back, head & face causing the muscules to spaz out. Haven't slept in 2 days - since I can't put any pressure on my head. Has not been this bad since prior to the surgery - so I am crossing my fingers - but even doped up it hurts like a bastard.

So long story short - driving is out of the question right now and probably will be for a week or so. It should calm down - if not back to the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC for amore indepth analysis.

Steve

Wow, as bad as it is for you ya still have to consider yourself quite lucky, that type of mishap (as well as diving accidents where the person's head slams the bottom instead of their hands/arms taking the hit) is among the leading causes of paralysis/serious spinal cord injury out there.
First is likely still auto accidents I believe...guess how I know this LOL.
Feel better Steve.

Mark - thanks.

I couldn't agree more. That is why I try to live life to the fullest and try and not let idle BS get to me - I know how lucky I am with this.

The face on my wife was priceless when I came out of sedation after the 2nd operation - she told the orthopedic surgeon that I wanted to ask a question (really she did). She goes on to say that "Steve" was wondering how long before he could play hockey again (she figured he'd hit the roof). He turns to me and says - as long as the intermittent paralysis leaves his upper body area - 6 to 8 weeks. She looks at him like WTF - he turns to her and says - as long as he protects his neck - it is the best thing for him to enjoy the things he normally does, plus it was incredible exercise. The surgeon used me as a sounding board that other patients could call after I got back on my feet, if they were depressed after their surgery. They would be like "your kidding" your playing hockey after a laminectomy - always told "yep" and odds are good you will be doing what you like too - just don't let the pain and immobility define you as a person. It was kinda neat dealing with others in the same situation - don't know if it helped any of them - but hope it did and I know it helped me.

The wife - well she just gave up after that and was happy to see me leave Hockey (bad knee) and go back to Drag racing a few years ago. She realizes I am certifiably NUTS!

In any event - I am too doped up to drive Saturday - unless of course you guys want to spot me a few car lengths. Maybe do a Pinks thing.

Steve

Thanks guys - woke up this morning with just stiffnes (no Frank not there) and very groggy.

So looks like the medication may have worked.

Did anyone race yesterday at Atco - I know over here the weather was on and off rainy?

I ran, and there were only 3 other new gtos that did. There were more G8s that ran then new gtos.

We had to wait until like 11 before our first run. Then got 2 in real quick before it started misting again. They shut down and waited. I got my 3rd run in at 330, and after that I left. It was pretty cool to see all the old gtos. Alot more of them showed up then we did. I think there were 4 or 5 new gtos in the car show. It wasn't a bad day, but the rain sucked, and there could have definitely been more racing.

Many people didn't show because of the weather, I know it was raining in my neck of the woods. We had about 40-50 goats show @ Etown last Sunday.
