...And Justice For Jason

Interesting. Just found this on youtube:

Quote:
This is the original studio recording of ...And Justice For All with audible bass. But here's the catch. This isn't me playing bass and dubbing it. This is Jason Newsted's actual bass track re-dubbed at a MUCH higher level.

How did I manage to do this? Rock Band. Two of the tracks from ...And Justice For All have been released as downloadable content for the band simulation game, Rock Band. I managed to [mostly] isolate the bass from those songs, and dubbed it over untouched album versions of the songs. The end result is finally, after nearly 20 years, being able to hear some of AJFA complete with Jason's bass CLEARLY audible in the mix.

I'm actually a little surprised that nobody has done this, yet. At least, I haven't been able to find anything related to it, yet.

I found the picture of the altered cover "...And Justice For JASON" using Google image search. I know there is already an entire version of the album entitled that, in which some guy recorded himself playing bass over the album, but I thought the name sounded appropriate for this.

I think it sounds really cool to hear the bass, and apparently Jason's actual bass track from the studio, amped up here.

Weird to listen to I guess. I am a drummer though so I never really paid too much attention to the lack of noticeable Bass in the album.

That was my number one complaint with that album. The mix was smurfing horrible when it came to the basslines. The rest of the album is pure genius. I wish metallica could go back and write shit like that again. I am not into metal much anymore but that album IMO transcends time.

This isn't perfect though. The bass is mixed a tad too high in the mix. Better than just hearing your speakers fart every 5-6 beats. The bass tracks should still be there but not be enough to be isolated by your ears. That is what happens in this mix TO ME.

It was done intentionally.

Makes no sense. I heard that though. I mean I know cliff died and all and they probably didn't want Jason to come through on the album but still....

I think the bass is a little too high in the mix on this in some spots, but others seems just fine. It's interesting to hear, but tough to change what we've all known for the last 20 years.
