Kooks dyno comparison

I've been meaning to post this for a while now, just never got around to it. Just an unbiased comparison of Kooks 1 3/4" headers vs. Kooks Signature Series headers for curious minds.

Both graphs were my car with the same tune both times.

Mods to the car at the time were:
k&n cai, udp, 218/222 .563/.566 cam, stock ported intake & throttle body, magnaflow catback, prc stg 1 ported heads

Smaller curve is with the 1 3/4" headers & larger power curve is with the stepped headers.

Looks like the sig series did good? What were the final power numbers.. and peak difference between the two? I can't see.

Average of 9 rwhp and 10 ft/lb of TQ more..looks great! Right in line with what my dyno showed. Glad they proved worth their money.

True story...I put down 376/393 with the mods in my sig, basically just full exahuast and tune. After I got off the phone with Brandon my Sig Series were very close in price to the regular Kooks.

The SS headers are $300 more than standard headers. In my mind..if I am spending $1000+ on headers that give me 30rwhp..I really don't see spending $300 more for 10 HP/10FT/LB TQ unreasonable. People spend that kind of money on CAI's all the time that do not make that much of a difference.

Wouldnt it be a more fair comparison to run them against the regular Kooks 1 7/8 headers ?? Of course you are going to get more power with these over 1 3/4 headers on any car. Is someone going to actually see 10HP/10TQ compared to the less expensive $900 1 7/8ths Kooks ? Would be nice to see comparisons between those two headers to justify the added cost IMO.

So its $1400 for those with catless mids and $1600 with catted mids. For that much money one could buy a really nice cam/spring package, other headers AND a CAI. Thats a lot of dough for headers as nice as they are.

It looks worthwhile to me. Don't get me wrong; I would not swap an exisiting set of headers for them but shopping for a first set these seem worth it. People will spend $300 for a CAI to add 10 hp so why not get the better headers for the same amount?

I cant argue they are very nice and price not being an object that is what I might get as well. I am still curious as to how they compare with the Kooks 1 7/8s that are $300 less rather then compared to the smaller 1 3/4 Kooks. The stepped headers go to a 1 7/8 so it will flow better then a 1 3/4 header. I am thinking they will be very close if not the same numbers but only one way to find out.

No doubt, but people throw $300 at it. This seems much more legit.

It will if they can show they give an increase over the 1 7/8ths Kooks for $300 less.

On a stock cube LS2 you would probably not see any gain in the numbers with the 1 7/8 vs. the 1 3/4. You would probably end up losing some torque as well.

I dont know about you but 300 is alot to me.Just dont think 9hp and 10trq is worth it.I have a set of 1 3/4 kooks headers to put on.I think those will be worth it.Thats JMO
I will be ordering some motor mounts from you though,I still think that Maryland Speed is one of the best sponsors on here.

Correct

I picked up nothing on a H/C/I going from Kooks 1 3/4" to 1 7/8"

Good to see back up test results of the torque improvement. 10 ft-lb is worthwhile, should feel it on the street.

The SS Kooks are on my "after" Christmas list.

Haven't dynoed my set-up yet but soon will. The torque increase was pushing the limits of the stock clutch. Had to upgrade to a Monster level 3 to hold the extra power. Granted, I went from stock manifolds to Kooks SS stepped, so the increase is more dramatic.

I wonder if a Pacesetter 1 3/4" LT would destroy a Kooks 2" LT under the torque curve.

If only Kooks made a 2" primary tube header for our GTOs!
It would be great for the 427+ cubic inch engines.
