My grandpa did a long time ago. They did alot of landscaping for him and when he asked how much the materials were, they said free. Turns out they would just pull up to the loading bay, act like they knew what they were doing and drove off with all the lumber, steel, etc. Of course the old man had stock in Home Depot and was furious.

Funny story.
I bought a new house back in '06. Something was wrong with the sprinkler system in the summer of '07, so I called the "warranty guy." Small town - dude's like a community handyman more than anything else.
Anyhow, I was at work and the GTO was home in the garage. He called me up and explained what the problem was with the sprinkler system. Then he goes, "By the way. I went into your garage and saw that car and stuff and I didn't let my crew see or go into your garage. Never know what to expect with some of these Mexicans."
I didn't know whether I should be appalled at his racism or appreciative of his consideration.

From what i remember 10 an hour was it. If you arent going to be there dont bother. They wont work if your not there. (they will take their sweet ass time.)
When i used to do pond maintenance for golf courses and such we used to hire the guys. If there was a large crowd you had to make sure that they didnt jump into the bed of the truck or into the car. (say you only want 2, they will try fill your truck and try force you to pay them all...) If you find one guy you like and its a multiple day work. Let him know that you want him again the next day and organize a different spot to pick him up. If you ever need work again, go to the same place you found him and ask for him.
The guy I worked for would leave one of us whities at each place. So long as we worked the guys we had hired would work. If you took a break, they somehow knew how long to keep working before they stopped. Agree on how much before you leave the place. it's better for them and for you.
i wouldnt. might be under cover cops.
10/hr cash plus a few beers when the job is done.
what's against the law about hiring a mexican to do work? you supposed to check their visa before hand or something?

i don't have a problem with mexicans. atleast most of them. they bust their ass for little to no money, and they don't complain about it. and they don't start trouble either. atleast as far as the men go...the ones who are here working to give their families back home money and/or eventually move them here.
i've known a few during my time in different areas of work...they were all good people.
i do realize that there are some that take advantage of the system...but the drain on our economy and healthcare system(s) is far worse from our own citizens.
and hell, if you have property you rent...the best kinds of people to rent to are probably mexicans...get paid the same day every month in cash!
And i was just curious about it......living in florida i saw a ton of that happening.....never in detroit though.....but after moving to vegas i see it here too.....
I also agree with the statement about never being able to complain about illegal immigration. Unless, of course, hes legal and just a laid off construction worker, like i was for 6 months in the past 2 yrs.
Regardless of race, to Doric's point, I think that petty theft is common among low wage hard laborers who work for cash. I can only speak of all the white trash I've worked with and watched my step dad hire in the past. Over the course of many years, various laborers have stolen a lot of crap from us. Everything from breaking into the tool van, to coming to the property after dark and stealing a brand new go kart out of the pole building. When I used to work various jobs there were plenty of guys who bragged about
that kind of crap all the time. I wouldn't be surprised if this sort of thing could cross the racial divide. Yes, the guy was wrong by blaming only Mexicans.
