Axle bolts fell out!!!

Heard a strange klinking sound from the passenger side of my '04... pulled over and found this....

Calling local dealership today. I put a link in below for all 2004 TSB's. This one in particular is 3080C. Might want to check 'em out. I was lucky.

I'm gonna go to get the bolts/retainers missing from the dealership + some loctite. What is the torque on these?

When I put in my bolts from GeForce I torqued to 50 ft/lbs then retorqued to 60 ft/lbs.

I'd recommend his bolts over the bolts from the dealer as well. Much higher quality.

The stock bolts will be fine if you torque them and use loctite. I didn't measure the torque I put on mine (since as I recall they don't have a standard head), but it was a lot and probably more than 50 ft lbs, I did not want them coming loose again.

Grade 8 Bolts should be good + Loctite, Stainless Steel would be nice also because of where they are located...

Gforce sells a bolt kit for the halfshafts. Much better than the stockers. Use plenty of loctite as well.

Use the red stuff. coat the threads, Tq to 50 ft lbs.

It doesn't look like you lost the shims so just order some new bolts.

Damn, bought the blue stuff.

If you look close enough 2 of the shims are damaged. That's fine though because the one that's really bent was the "tattle-tail". Otherwise I wouldn't have known untill more damage was done.

Lesson learned here... if something sounds unusuall check it right away.

Torque them until they break, then back then off a 1/4 turn.

My Triumph used large grade 8 bolts and nylon lock nuts on the drive shaft.
Isn't that a better choice than loctite?

Edit:

Looking at the pics, is there even room for nuts? Looks like I made a faux-pas.

See if you can find star washers for the bolts as well, this will help keep them from loosening. I would say lock washers but you might not have enough bolt for that thick of a washer.

Yes, I mentioned to a friend of mine right after mine fell out and his were loose on his '05.

Be prepared to pay for an entire pack of them and they're $4+ each. They come in a pack of 5 (why I don't know since there are I think, 8 bolts) and they will try and make you buy the whole pack. I got lucky and prepaid for 2 bolts cause the guy at the parts counter didn't know any better. When they came in another guy tried to make me buy the whole pack and I told him nope.

I also had them fall out again just about a week ago. The new ones had loctite on them, but it was in fact the first one that came out. I covered it in loctite this time and tightened the S#@T! out of it. They only seem to come loose right after I wheel hope REALLY bad...
