3rd cousin can be arrived at by more than one way, since there aren't names for all of the 2nd and 3rd relative roles, people just start using the term "cousin".
For example, if your mother had a cousin (which would be your 2nd cousin), and that 2nd cousin had a child, that child would be your 3rd cousin.

Here's how I see it... Having sex is temporary. Having sex with a cousin is permanent.
