different ignition switch problem?

my frustrating problem: out running errands, car starting fine, come out of the store and turn the key and nothing happens. power to everything but when turn the key to staring position no click or anything. Has happened 3 or 4 times last couple of months. Let it set anywhere from 1 to 3 hours and it starts up and works fine. My guess is switch is going bad but wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen and figured it out. Suggestions welcome. Have a couple of times push started it.

Bad ground, bad connection to your starter hot wire, or bad starter. I'd start by checking all those out and having the battery tested. If you think it is heat related, then IMHO, it is more likely that the starter itself is getting hot and the solenoid is hanging up. When it cools off and everything contracts, she'll activate. At least older starters would do that.

Your're all stock and haven't done any recent work, right?

In addition to what's been mentioned above, there is also a start relay located in the under-hood fuse box. This relay operates the solenoid under PCM control, in these cars the key does NOT operate the solenoid/starter directly. This is how you can start the car by turning the key to "start" momentarily, and the starter will run on its own until the engine starts.
Find that relay, and next time this happens try tapping on it or swapping it with another (non-essential) one that is identical. If the car then starts, and the problem doesn't return, it points to that relay being bad.

thanks for the ideas, with the blower under the hood it does get hot. I did replace the started about a year ago with a heavy duty gear reduction unit.
