Courtesy of NME.com - Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has said that singer Steven Tyler has quit the band "as far as I can tell." Perry's comments follow those of rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford, who last week (November 6) said that Aerosmith are to hold crisis talks about their future after relations with Tyler became strained.
Now Perry has confirmed that Tyler is unlikely to perform with the band again.
"Steven quit as far as I can tell," he told the Las Vegas Sun, adding that the singer "has had no contact with me or the other band members."
The past few months have blighted with problems for Aerosmith. In August Tyler was airlifted to hospital after falling offstage at a gig in Dakota. As a result, the band were forced to cancel a U.S. tour.
Reacting to Tyler's supposed departure, Perry vowed to carry on with Aerosmith. He echoed Whitford's recent comments by saying he is considering replacing Tyler with a new vocalist.
"Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on," Perry explained. "Aerosmith is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do.
"As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer."
In a recent interview with Classic Rock magazine, Tyler said he wants to concentrate on "Brand Tyler."
How many years now has it been since this band was relevant? Get a Grip was the last album they produced that was worth mentioning, and even that one is debatable. Pump, more likely.

Exactly.
Aerosmith is breaking up
Late 80's/early 90's = Orly?
2009 = WGAF

Yep, not a huge fan myself, but you can't write these guys off with the type of shows they still put on. Pretty impressive even if your last "good" album was a while ago.

Bingo. Pump was it. Had the pleasure of meeting Steve Tyler, Joe Perry and Joey Kramer during the tour. Steve Tyler: nicest guy in the world. Joe Perry: crossed paths in a hallway and said "what's up" to each other. Joey Kramer: very, very nice guy.
God, this thread was the last to be commented on so when I saw it in the lounge preview, all I got was "Aerosmith's Joe Perry...." and first thought was "shit he's dead...." haha.
Either way this is kinda sad. I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan, but they were always one of those bands i really wanted to see play before they stop, but I never ended up getting to see them.

Me too man, been listening to them for probably a good 15years(im only 25 so thats kinda a long time) and always wanted to see them live. There one of the those bands that I will stop listening to for awhile but always go back to listening to over and over again.

Fixed it for ya.
They have had maybe 2 or 3 even OK songs since their "comeback" with "dude looks like a lady

What's with all the jabs about their age? Disparaging them for being older has nothing to do with their ability to play. Like them or not they have had a very impressive run.
Some of the best musicians I have had the privelage of listening to are blues/jazz musicians that are well into their 60's or beyond.
As for them being relavent in today's music industry. I'm not sure them being relevant to today's processed cheese also known as the music industry is anything they aspire to.
On topic, an Aerosmith without Steven Tyler is a non-starter as far as I am concerened.

+1000.
I LOVE Aerosmith and have seen them live a few times. I have met them in person and think they are great guys. I will agree that some of the albums they have made have been lack luster, but I thought Nine Lives was a great CD and still listen to it all the time.
Hopefully it gets worked out and they will tour again. If they do I will be in attendance.

Rush has been at it since '73 and they still rock. I think the drugs took the toll on Aerosmith.
I saw them two years ago and although it was a fine concert, they played too much stuff from their newest album which everyone would rather hear old stuff than that junk.

I used to listen to a lot of their music but in the last few years it just doesnt do it for me. Sometimes its ok but for the most part I cant stand it anymore. In the movie "Be Cool" I thought they sounded like sh!t and that girl they had singing with them was terrible at best.
Oh and Liv doesnt do it for me either. That one movie she shows her boobs at a YOUNG age and I lost all respect for her. Plus she kissed Ben Afleck and how discusting is that? His mouth has been all over Matt Damons wang and butthole for how long? Plus he was with J-HO so its just one big pass of nastyness downt he line. If she was in my bed naked I would burn my sheets. Yucky....

A lot, Pump is ok but it wears thin very quickly.

Since as long as I can remember I have known who RUSH is, however the singers voice puts me in a bad mood as soon as I hear it.
