To start out with- I absolutely HATE cats. They are the most useless "pets" imaginable, IMHO. We had one, that was actually "OK" with me- very low maintenance, didn't climb on the tables, furniture, etc. Just basically a barn cat we got from someone and wanted to be outside more than in- PERFECT.
Well, that cat met an untimely demise so my wife was upset and wanted another cat, being the sap that I am, I caved. This cat is EVERYTHING I HATE about cats! It must have been spoiled by it's previous owners- meows non stop for attention 24-7 (doing it now- I want to shoot the smurfer), jumps on the tables, counters, on top of the entertainment center, claws at the couches, jumps on your lap and begs for food while you're eating, etc. To top it off, last night my wife wanted the cat to sleep in bed with us- this thing was attacking my feet through the covers, crawling around our heads and meowing for attention ALL smurfING NIGHT LONG. A good whack with the pillow made him sleep on my wifes side for the remainder of sleep time .
We figured we'd bring him home and he'd be a bit reserved for a few days until he "came around"- not at all, the smurfer acted like he has lived here forever after 30 seconds- not a good thing to do with our dogs here, he's going to end up getting himself hurt... He annoys the dogs so much that I have officially named him "lunch meat". Ugh, I smurfing hate cats..
*If* we didn't have two dogs that didn't want to be bothered with an annoying cat and I didn't have to deal with him- EVER, then he would be the "perfect cat" (for those who like cats), but being that they are nothing more than a nuisance to me and the dogs can't stand him pestering them, he is much more trouble than he is worth so far.
I just hope my female pit gets over her trembling and jaw pumping when the cat approaches her. So far, she REALLY does not want him bothering her.. I've just been keeping her muzzled when he is around her to be safe, but we can't do this forever either. She was ok with the last cat since she never bothered her, this one she finds as annoying as I do lol.
Lol, don't think it hasn't crossed my mind... The last cat, we started with as an "indoor" cat, but once my wife was pregnant and I had to take care of the litter box, she quickly went back to being an outdoor cat- I think I cleaned it once before saying smurf this and tossing her ass out. I opened the door, chucked her out and hoped she'd run off, about 4 days later she came back to the door and actually turned out to be the perfect cat. She would only come in to eat and then wanted to go right back out. Lol, my wife got mad because immediately after tossing her out, I threw the litter box away and told her "we won't be needing this any more". Heck, the day she died, I threw away all her toys and food and said "good, this stuff was stinking up the house". I hate when anything dies, but I was glad to see her gone lol.
Now that we have another, far more annoying cat- I am actually missing the first haha.
lol at the cat attacking your feet...i was passed out one night after a night of drinking over my buddies house...i was covered up on the floor and about 6 am the cat woke me up attacking anything moving under the blanket...i thought it was pretty funny but im not a cat hater lol. Cats are ok but im more of a dog person myself

It was "cute" how he was attacking my feet, but I was smurfing tired and wanted to sleep lol. Between the feet and the fact that this thing purrs like a smurfing Mac truck when he is rubbing on your head kept me up all friggin night!!
Honestly, I am not a "cat hater" as in I would ever do or bring harm to one, I will pet him if he comes near me, etc. I am really more of a "cat disliker"- while I would never hurt one, I would not miss it if it just "disappeared" through an open door lol. I just find them extremely annoying and useless as a pet (though, some are very cute, admittedly).
I am certainly much more of a dog person than I will ever be cat person though.
Have it declawed, its worth every penny. Makes it real difficult for them to jump on anything and stops the destruction of you funiture/feet!

There's no way to put the cat on the other end of the house while you guys sleep? Loki did this to my s/o so she threw a small blanket out in the hallway outside of her door. He's content with being able to lay on that and doesn't make a peep all night.

I say take the muzzle off the dog and see how long the cat lasts. Best way for him to learn his place in the house.
Ha, I'd say it wouldn't make it to the end of the day. She just "attacked" the cat a few minutes ago- luckily the muzzle was on! hopefully, he learned a lesson about messing with her. I don't know what the hell my wife was thinking or how we are going to make this all work out....

The first night, we kept him locked in the downstairs bathroom (where his box and food is). That seemed to work well, but last night, my wife wanted to crate the dog and have the cat stay with us.. I can assure you, the cat is sleeping in the bathroom again tonight lol.
How old is the said cat your describing? Mine did the whole feet attacking, leg biting after the shower, attacking the hair on me and the wife's head, etc. when she was a kitten...they are just curious at that age. It does go away after awhile. My cat never meowed or purred like crazy until she was older and like yours, she sounds like like a truck but I love it because I love cats.
If the cat is older, I suspect she/he is just trying to get used to his/her new surroundings, feeling out the place, you and your wife, etc. Just be a little patient Coming into a new enviornment regardless if it's a cat, dog, etc. is a learning experience and the cat has to get used to a new way of life. As much as you don't like cats, it's just trying to get attention/affection from you...and yes that would include nipping at your feet

Cats are extremely smart and can be trained or managed into behaving appropriately.
If the cat jumps up on the table or counter, tell it to get down. Scratches? Get it a scratching pad or post and train it to use that. Don't want it in bed? Provide it with a nice place to sleep.
After having nothing but dogs as a kid -- I became a cat person because our first one was so cool. They're much lower maintenance than dogs -- and don't screw the house or yard up like they do, either.
Nothing worse than going to a house that's for sale where big dogs have lived. The walls and carpets are dirty. The side entrance to the garage has a giant dog door hole cut in it -- and the yard usually has some stupid, ugly dog run in it. That and the trim around the windows and sliding glass doors are usually buggered up from some big, retarded dog jumping against it. No, thanks.
Then again, I'm sure these houses were owned by lousy dog owners. We've got some folks around here who have the coolest German Shepherds around. Smart, well trained. Just amazing dogs.

A poorly kept house that has cats is much worse, IMO. That being said, I agree with everything else. Cats are trainable. Ya don't want it sleeping in the bed, put a nice cat bed under it. May take a tough week to train him off, but he'll learn. Same goes for the scratching and many other cat annoyances. Get the SOB to use the toilet (srsly) and you're golden.

I agree, I have seen houses where the previous owners kept cats in the basement to piss and shit wherever they want- there is no getting rid of that!
Anyway, last night was a bit better- I think the whack with the pillow the night before set him straight . He slept between our two pillows and just stayed put for a majority of the night. Did not once go after my feet lol.
This guy is actually very lovable- rubs on everyone and purrs like there's no tomorrow. Problem is, my one dog really wants to hurt him, so I don't know what we are going to do. I'm not getting rid of my dog just so my wife can keep her stupid cat. We'll see how things go with time, I guess.. Maybe she'll get used to him.
I hate cats too. Neighbor is the cat lady of the street. Tired of having cats sleep on my daily driver.
Lol... the first day i moved to my new house the neighbor and his wife were out on their porch so I went over to meet them. I noticed than they had 3-4 cats running around their yard and when I started that way they alll jumped up on their car. After the greetings and everything were over I said "I'm not trying to be mean but if I ever catch those cats on my GTO they will never be seen around here again". They got the point bc whenever I pull up in the goat the woman walks outside and picks up the cats and brings them in and keeps them in if I leave the car outside the garage.
Oh and I do HATE cats! I have no remorse for making them vanish
I think you are over reacting and you should take the muzzel off the dog. The cat will be fine. Did I mention I hate cats too.
Lol, I told my wife we should just take the muzzle off and let nature run it's course . She didn't like that idea . My dog just sits there staring at the cat, licking her lips and pumping her jaw all day- that muzzle is the only reason we've had the cat for 3 days so far!
I can understand having a preference for one animal over another - I prefer cats to dogs, myself. Maybe it has something to do with personality?
Mainly, I don't like the in-your-face, licking constantly, barking at nothing in the middle of the night, hyperactive, attention-needy, constantly-whining, whimpering-when-you're-not-petting it attitude of dogs. But, I certainly don't hate them. I can't say I would ever go out and own a dog on my own accord, but I'm fond of the two dogs my family had while I was growing up and I wouldn't ever do anything to purposefully hurt any dog.
Why such animosity for cats? I know why I prefer them and I can certainly see why some people wouldn't - but why the serious hate? What have cats ever done for it to be okay to kill cats unashamedly? I mean, some of the things some people on this forum say are really disgusting and depressing - and I'm never one to be for the animals or the environment.
I'm sure a lot of it (if not nearly all of it) is Internet badass e-peen talk, but, c'mon - they aren't that bad. And if you ever treated a cat nicely you'd probably have a lot less stories to fuel your murderous hatred.
